A South Carolina mom went to her son’s school to handle his lunch needs and walked out with a warning sheet. A resource officer stopped her after a teacher raised concerns about a video she was recording. Ultimately, the confrontation left viewers split over whether staff overreacted or had every right to be cautious.

Posted to TikTok by @aerieldaily, the video opens with the resource officer approaching the creator. “What’s going on?” she asks. The creator tells her she’s just there to see her son, and the officer explains that a teacher reported her recording inside the classroom.

The creator denies it, explaining that her phone was pointed at herself and that she was only “watching” her son. The officer tells her the staff seemed uncomfortable.

The South Carolina creator explains that the teacher asked her multiple times if she was okay, offering to go get her son for her. Eventually, she declined and says she started filming herself because she expected the teacher to come back again.

Later, the officer raises another concern, saying staff had seen @aerieldaily posting videos from inside the building. The creator pushes back and says she’s only at the school to handle meal accommodations for her son.

Before the video ends, the officer gives her a sheet outlining what is and isn’t allowed on campus.

TikTok Picks Sides

The South Carolina mom’s filming became the biggest talking point in the comment section. “I think the recording culture has become extreme. When I go to my kids school I don’t think to record, even myself. The optics don’t look great. You can and should advocate for your child but why all the recording?” one commenter wrote.

Some viewers shifted the focus to the teacher’s perspective, arguing the concern wasn’t personal. “It sounds like the teacher is concerned about all the children not just yours,” one shared.

School policy became its own sticking point for other commenters. “If you sign in to go eat lunch with your kid you’re supposed to only go to the cafeteria, not wander around to classrooms. That’s a safety issue that your school needs to get checked,” one said.

Though, the meal accommodation request did draw attention from a few commenters. One backed her outright, saying food options matter and are worth advocating for. Others offered a more practical workaround. “Prepare his lunch at home, problem solved,” one person offered.

The video ended up sparking debate over how parents advocate for their children at school. Some viewers felt the mom had every right to document her experience. Others thought the recording was unnecessary.
