Captain Glenn Shephard has, over the years, emerged as the fan-favorite Captain in the Below Deck Universe. Below Deck: Sailing Yacht is the second spin-off show of the popular Bravo reality series franchise Below Deck. The spin-off debuted on the network on February 3, 2020, with Captain Glenn Shephard at the helm of the Parsifal III. Although the series is only in its third season, Glenn has quickly carved a space for himself alongside Below Deck franchise OGs such as Captain Lee Rosbach, Captain Sandy Yawn, and Captain Howard.
Like his counterparts, Glenn boasts decades of experience in the yachting industry and is passionate about his job. The Montreal-born reality star began his career as a deckhand and rose through the ranks to become Captain — a position he has held for more than a decade. Although Captain Glenn rarely speaks about his private life, he has mentioned having a mom and brother back in Canada, though he lives in Spain. He has also previously talked about how his constant traveling has made it difficult to build lasting relationships.
Nonetheless, that dedication to his job has made him a big hit with Below Deck fans. More importantly, his leadership style has set him apart from his counterparts and earned him the admiration of fans. Fans recently started a conversation on Reddit about the franchise’s Captains, and most had nothing but praise for Glenn. One of them had this to say:
“Glenn is the best Captain, cultivated a reliable team. Gets involved when he needs to. Stays out of it when that’s best and trusts his department heads have their shit together. Generally promotes a good working environment. Class act.”
Captain Glenn’s Sweet But Firm Personality
Most reality TV shows feature a lot of drama, and the Below Deck franchises are no different. While drama from the crew members is primarily entertaining, it is not well-received by fans when it comes from a Captain. Recently, Captain Lee and Captain Sandy drew the ire of fans when they got involved in a distasteful social media spat. Fans felt their behaviors were unbecoming of their ranks and let them have it.
This area is where Captain Glenn sets himself apart from the rest of his colleagues. He stays clear of drama and maintains perfect harmony amongst his crew members. Unlike some captains who love micromanaging, Glenn gets out of the way and has confidence in his team to get the job done. Aside from his crew members, Glenn has a fantastic relationship with other stars across the franchise. He recently applauded Kate Chastain after she starred on the reality show The Traitors. And after meeting up with other captains at Bravocon, he had nothing but kind words for them. He said:
“One of the best highlights was meeting these four Captains for the first time in person…Instant friends, can’t wait to catch up again.”
Captain Glenn’s Exemplary Disciplined Attitude
Despite his gentle approach to leadership, Captain Glenn still manages to lay down the law aboard the Parsifal III. However, he goes about it in the most drama-free way, and fans have come to appreciate it. Most Below Deck fans see him as a breath of fresh air and feel his kindness stands out from the rest of the pack. Reddit user lelila2 wrote:
“Glenn is the best Captain. Fight me.”
Many Below Dek fans agreed and argued that they found his kindness entertaining. However, they raised doubts about Bravo seeing it the same way. Thankfully, Glenn’s job seems safe for now as he works directly for the owner of Parsifal — who won’t let anyone else take the boat’s wheels apart from Captain Glenn.
