Fans welcomed the idea of having Dorothy Wang as the headlining star for Netflix’s new spin-off series Bling Empire: New York. Unlike many cast members, fans already knew quite a lot about Dorothy from her rich small-screen experience over the years. 34-year-old Dorothy first impressed fans when she featured in the popular E! series Rich Kids of Beverly Hills in 2014. She also appeared in Famously Single, and more recently, she joined the season 2 cast members of Bling Empire in May 2022.
However, since the release of Bling Empire: New York, fans have called out Dorothy for some of her antics during the season. Many fans expressed their disdain for how she carried herself throughout the season — with some even describing her as “unnecessarily dramatic and extremely unlikeable.
New York Fans Feel Dorothy Is Entitled and Rude
The fact that Dorothy is getting so much heat from fans after only the first season speaks volumes about how much her antics must have irked them. Many of the fans even wondered how she managed to keep a friendship with fellow castmate Tina Leung, who ended the season as a fan favorite. As usual, fans took the conversation to Reddit, where they started a thread on all matters concerning the show. Many commenters quickly registered their disdain for Dorothy, with some fans questioning why she headlined the show in the first place.
Several other viewers agreed that she was rude and entitled while giving several instances of her being totally annoying in the series. However, one disappointed commenter suggested producers might have asked Dorothy to play the villain since she displayed a contrasting attitude compared to some of her older reality TV shows.

Although there is no evidence producers had anything to do with Dorothy’s nasty behavior during Bling Empire: New York, many fans agreed she did a good job making herself highly unlikeable. Most of the fans had strong words to say about the reality star, including a Reddit user, u/baileybitthemouse, who wrote:
“Dorothy is so unlikable to me, I really can’t enjoy watching this.”
Also, some fans blamed Dorothy’s annoying behavior, which she displayed for most of the season, on her background. Many noted how she didn’t have to struggle for much, unlike some of her co-stars. One user wrote:
“She sucks so much, unlikeable face, horrible personality, her gossip sucks, she has no charm at all. Her success can be attributed to her being born into the right family.“
Bling Empire: New York Fans Believe Dorothy Should Stay off Fillers
Meanwhile, besides Dorothy’s annoying behavior and attitude, some fans took their criticism further by making some observations about her physical appearance. Many fans agreed that Dorothy looked a lot older than her age and blamed it on her excessive use of fillers. The general feeling was that her face had started looking impaired, and they cautioned her to stay off fillers. One concerned Bling Empire: New York fan wrote:
“Dorothy really needs to lay off the fillers, her face has been ruined by them.”
Although there was so much hype around Dorothy going into the premiere of Bling Empire: New York, yet, she lost all that goodwill with literally every move she made during the season. At this point, Dorothy needs to return to the drawing board and correct some of her mistakes.
