After the recent Love Is Blind season 4 drama, fans think age restriction rules might positively change the show’s dynamics. Love Is Blind is a dating reality TV series that premiered on Netflix on February 13, 2020. The show follows a social experiment in which single men and women look for love and get engaged before face-to-face interaction.
For ten days, the hopeful singles communicate and date their love interests through soundproof “pods.” They cannot see their dates; all they have going for them is their conversation skills, voice, and emotional compatibility. More importantly, the contestants cannot use their phones and live on-set, albeit separated by gender.
After 10 days, the couples still interested in continuing the experiment get engaged and whisked on a honeymoon trip to Mexico. If they survive the journey, they come back and live together for a month, during which they interact with each other’s friends and family. In the end, they have to decide if they want to exchange marital vows or not.
The show’s format creates an intense couple of weeks for the cast and requires contestants committed to finding love to work hard to develop genuine connections. Nonetheless, after watching the series for years and the recent season 4 episodes, some of the show’s fans are urging producers to introduce an age restriction for the show.
Love Is Blind Fans Think An Age Restriction Will Create More Genuine Connections
As expected, Netflix dropped the first five episodes of Love Is Blind season 4 on March 24. However, some of the cast, Micah and Irina, have received massive backlash for their mean girl behavior as fans watched them laugh at and bully fellow cast mates who became emotional.
Their behavior dominated social media discussions, especially Reddit, as fans called them out. However, some fans pointed out that the girls behaved like that due to their age and because they didn’t take the competition seriously. Some fans then touted the introduction of age restriction to the show, which will produce more genuine connections.
To drive the conversation, a fan, u/PrincessLuma, started a thread on Reddit with the tagline,
“I Don’t Think They Should Let Anyone Under 30 on LIB.” The OP argued that people in their 30s are more ready to settle down and take things seriously, unlike those in their 20s whose lives have just started.
The OP, however, expressed doubts about producers making such a change because the younger contestants tend to bring in more drama. With more older contestants, there would be less drama, and that may not just work for the producers.
Another user u/West-India, wrote,
“I definitely agree that if it is a show about marriage, it should be 30 plus. I would also love a version with older people like 45-60. I think the older you get, the more excited you are about compatibility and shared interests, and love is naturally a bit blinder.”
Although there are valid grounds for this sort of argument, it remains a controversial topic. Still, some sections of the fanbase are very happy with the current format and happy to watch all the drama unfold. Nonetheless, Love Is Blind Season 4 will produce more talking points as the season progresses.
