OJ Simpson made everyone around him, including his children and medical staff sign NDAs before his death. The former NFL great passed away on Wednesday, April 10, following a battle with prostate cancer. His estate announced his demise via social media on Thursday, revealing he died at his Las Vegas home surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was 76.
OJ Simpson’s Children Signed NDAs Before His Death
The news of OJ Simpson’s death came as a shock to many, save for a few family and friends. Before his passing, little about his prostate cancer diagnosis was heard. In fact, the news broke for the first time in February following a report by a Florida news channel. However, the icon swung into action days later, denying the report of his cancer diagnosis and rumors of his admission into a hospice.
A new report from TMZ makes the story even weirder, showing OJ went to even greater lengths to keep his cancer battle a secret. The news outlet on Friday claimed that before his death OJ Simpson made his four surviving children, medical professionals, and anyone who visited him under hospice care, sign separate NDAs.
According to the sources, medical practitioners tending to the former athlete warned those around him of his impending “transition.” This prompted family and friends to troop in to pay their final respects. Insiders confirmed that about 30-50 visitors showed up during OJ Simpson’s final week, each mandated to sign NDAs. Additionally, no phones were allowed in the room during these visits.
At the time of his death, OJ Simpson’s children, including the two he shared with his murdered wife Nicole Simpson (Sydney and Justin), were by his side. The presence of Nicole’s kids at his bedside has raised brows, especially as OJ remains the sole suspect in her murder. Regardless, sources say the NBA legend died peacefully, getting a final chance to see his family together.
Why the Late Icon Made His Children Sign NDAs
The lingering question of why OJ Simpson made everyone, including his children, sign NDAs remains. TMZ attributed this to “privacy reasons,” as heard from a source. This line of thought seems like the most logical reason. At this point, it is a no-brainer that OJ Simson was very big on privacy, considering his big coverup back in February.
Reacting to the news that he was receiving care in a hospice after being diagnosed with cancer, OJ hopped on X to claim the media made everything up. He fired at the time,
“Hospice? Hospice? You talking about hospice? No, I’m not in any hospice. I don’t know who put that out there. I guess it’s like Donald [Trump] says, ‘You can’t trust the media.’ In any event, I’m hosting a tonne of friends of the Super Bowl here in Las Vegas. All is Well, you know. So take care, have a good Super Bowl weekend.”
OJ’s words strongly contradicted the claims from insiders, including his former manager Norman Pardo. Discussing the athlete’s health, Norman claimed doctors couldn’t do much for him anymore, and simply wanted to rest. The former manager also revealed that OJ Simpson found it increasingly difficult to “finish a round of golf.”
Last year, OJ also took the same approach, denying rumors that he feared his heart may give out at any point, leading to his impending death from a massive heart attack. Regardless of the numerous reports about his health that seeped into the media, the legend remained keen on asserting his well-being. With that in mind, one can’t put it past OJ Simpson to have his children, visitors and staff sign NDAs.
