You have to feel both sympathy and admiration for security guards. It always seems like such a thankless job. They’re primarily just a deterrent to put off shoplifters and constantly under threat of violence. One security guard in a Winnipeg dollar store, however, seems to have had enough of shoplifting in his store. In a video on Reddit, he absolutely destroys a shoplifter before dragging him out of the Dollarama store.
We’ve all had bad days. Sometimes you just wake up on the wrong side of bed and decide that, if anyone gets in your way, you won’t stand for it. The security guard for a Winnipeg Dollarama store decided just that.
In footage filmed by a bystander, the security guard decides against the usual when confronted by a shoplifter. He doesn’t just ineffectually try to usher them out of the store or ask them to return the stolen items. Oh no, not this guy. Instead, he lays into the hapless thief, punching him multiple times in the head before dragging him to the floor. The shoplifter tries to cling to a shopping cart, but the dollar store security guard has none of it. He drags the thief by his hoody out of the store, where the clip ends.
You could definitely argue that the dollar store security guard’s response was a little extreme. Then again, shoplifting is a blight that should be dealt with more severely than it is. Reddit was quick to jump to the security guard’s defence. “This is how we should deal with these degenerates,” one commenter remarked, before lamenting how the security guard will now no doubt be fired. Another bluntly stated, “He had enough of that s***.“
Of course, we don’t what transpired before the clip. Perhaps the shoplifter attacked the security guard first or threatened him. Either way, it’s hard to feel sorry for the thief, despite the ferocity of the measures the security guard employed. Perhaps he’ll think twice before attempting the stunt again. Sadly, it seems unlikely. As one Redditor put it, shoplifting is a persistent, cyclical problem. “These guys get arrested and released same day. Repeat the offence the next day and the cycle continues.“
