A Wisconsin man named Gonzalez has gone viral after claiming his 8-month-old French Bulldog died from heatstroke following a traffic stop in Rockton, Illinois. The man alleges he and his dog were left in dangerous heat while he was detained after being pulled over for driving on a suspended license. The incident has sparked widespread debate online as police dispute his version of events.
The videos were posted by TikTok user @just_me27587, where they have collectively received more than one million views and thousands of comments. Many viewers expressed sympathy for the loss of the dog, while others questioned what happened during the traffic stop and called for additional evidence to be released.
In the videos, the Wisconsin man can be seen speaking with police while he and his French Bulldog, Kody, are in the back of a patrol vehicle. Later clips show him holding his dog’s body as he cries. He claims Kody died on the way to an emergency veterinary clinic.
Gonzalez says he repeatedly told officers that the dog needed water and was suffering from the heat, but alleges his concerns were ignored. He has since launched a fundraiser to help cover the costs of a veterinary necropsy, cremation, and legal expenses as he seeks accountability for what happened.
According to WIFR, the Rockton Police Department disputes the allegations, saying social media posts about the incident contain inaccurate information. Police said the Wisconsin man’s own vehicle did not have air conditioning or water for the dog.
Officers stated that both the man and Kody were moved into an air-conditioned patrol car before stopping at a nearby gas station, where the dog was reportedly given bottled water and ice. Police said the dog appeared to improve before the man left for Wisconsin. The man was cited for speeding, driving on a suspended license, and operating an uninsured vehicle.

The comment section quickly became divided over who was responsible. Many viewers argued that once officers noticed the French Bulldog showing signs of heat distress, they should have immediately taken the dog to a veterinarian, contacted animal control, or sought help from emergency responders instead of stopping at a gas station.
Others encouraged the Wisconsin man to request the officers’ body camera footage through public records laws, saying it would provide a clearer picture of what happened during the stop.
