A random day out riding turned into a traumatic sight for a couple of teenagers in Wisconsin, as a police officer handled a 14-year-old boy violently as he called in requesting backup. As seen in a video posted on Instagram, the officer asked the boy riding a bike on the walkway to get off. When the boy finally did and tried to move away, the officer grabbed him and led him to the edge of the road and asked the teenager to sit on the pavement. The onlookers called out to the boy, asking him to follow the instructions.

Police violently arrest 14 year old Black boy—for riding a bike.

When he refused to obey the command to sit, the officer tackled him to the ground, forcefully pressing the boy’s face into the grass. The onlookers began to protest, saying the boy had done nothing wrong and that the officer was harassing him for no reason. Ignoring their cries, the officer soon called for backup as he continued to struggle with the kid. After a few moments, he pulled out his taser, and the boy gave in. The officer cuffed him up, and the backup arrived with sirens blaring.

Severe Backlash And Disgust Over Alleged Police Brutality Erupt

Netizens stormed the comments with reactions shifting from absolute shock to condemnation. Many pointed out the absurdity of the abuse of power, calling the call for reinforcement an admission of incompetence and unnecessary escalation.  Reminding the public about a perceived shift in police priorities, a sarcastic user wrote, “Don’t forget they’re here to disturb civilians, not to protect them…” Criticizing the misplaced priorities, a frustrated user pointed out the irony of officers aggressively targeting minor issues while ignoring actual criminal activities. Mocking the excessive force, a sarcastic individual wrote, “Can’t BELIEVE he actually asked for backup for a little kid. He must be so proud of himself.” An outraged viewer demanded basic human decency, objecting to the demeaning treatment, noting that human beings should never be ordered around like animals. A concerned user pointed out how the hostile actions of a single officer could affect the credibility of the entire police department.

An analytical user wrote, “He has to sit down for what? What law is that? People feel that cops can tell you anything, and people must follow. Tell him he’s being detained and under arrest. At that point, not following is resisting.” Connecting the violent encounter to larger issues, a critical netizen explained how systemic racism corrupts police institutions, giving officers who were meant to keep the peace the opportunity to turn into abusers targeting minority youths.
