Think you’ve seen it all in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt? Given Geralt all the haircuts he can get but still aren’t satisfied with what is available in the game? CD Projekt has just the thing for you.
CD Projekt’s already giant, open-world RPG has more than enough content to keep most adventurers busy, but modders had already been tinkering with the game’s code in order to change aspects of Geralt’s adventure. CD Projekt wanted to open things up with an official modding kit, and hopefully give people more freedom to change aspects to the game and make it more accessible.
You can find the official press release from CD Projekt here, or you can head directly to their page on Nexusmods to download the mod-kit for yourself and start tinkering. The modkit comes with a few sample mods that demonstrate some of what can be done, and documentation so even inexperienced modders can hopefully attempt some edits. There are plenty of useful and interesting mods already posted on the Nexusmods Witcher 3: Wild Hunt database, such as graphical upgrades, bloodier combat, increased weight limits, and vendors who actually have enough money to buy your items. There are also several minor graphical tweaks (oooh, you can give Ciri green eyes) to adjust the appearance of various aspects of the game.
People have voiced complaints that the modkit is not powerful enough. It will be interesting to see what direction people take the game in the coming weeks as they further discover what the modkit can and cannot do. And if modding the game is not your style, there is still the promised New Game+ DLC on the way, which is the final free DLC that CD Projekt has announced for Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Ready to try some mods out in Witcher 3: Wild Hunt? Or have you spent far too much time with Geralt of Rivia already? Let us know.
