Earlier this week Playstation announced that they were skipping their Gamescom press conference this year. It came as a surprise to say the least, with the last two Gamescom conferences being the launching point of both the PS4 release date, and last year with the first trailer of Bloodborne.
But while Playstation might be taking off and holding its announcements for a later date, Xbox will still be a strong presence at Gamescom.
On Twitter Wednesday, when asked if Xbox would be spreading out their news announcements this summer between E3 and Gamesom, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer tweeted, “Sure, we think GC is an important conference for us. One of the biggest game shows in the world.”
As E3 looms closer the rumors and speculations get more and more frequent. Will the Halo 5 campaign be previewed? Will we see the Gears of War Remaster or even Gears of War 4? What about the new Hololens technology? We do know that Microsoft will unveil a brand new exclusive IP at E3 this year. In addition to exclusives, Microsoft will no doubt feature many third party games for their press conferences. What exclusive DLC will Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 receive, if any? When will we see gameplay for Rise of the Tomb Raider?
Gamescom can often work as a companion conference to E3, where at the latter all the new announcements are made and games are revealed, only to then show off gameplay and additional exclusive features at GC. It’s exciting to think about all the games that will be revealed and expanded on as we move into E3, Gamescom, and more as the year goes on.
How do you feel about Microsoft still being a press conference presence this year at Gamescom? Are you excited for all the announcements that will be made over the next few months?
