Monolith Soft and Nintendo have officially announced during the February 2022 Direct presentation the next entry in the iconic Xenoblade Chronicles JRPG series, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, will be coming to the Nintendo Switch with a release date set sometime in September 2022. The brand new Xenoblade Chronicles 3 trailer provided an overview of the game’s story, characters, and the world was released during the presentation.

The Xenoblade Chronicles 3 trailer shows off not only several of the gameplay and cinematics but detailed the story that will unfold in this vast, diverse world full of rocky, towering cliffs, snowcapped mountains, and a backdrop of plunging waterfalls, all contrasting with breathtakingly beautiful natural landscapes. Massive mechanical monstrosities continue to occupy the land and sea in this world, much like the previous entries in the JPRG series, and the story of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is set in the same world.
The Nintendo Direct described the narrative of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 as tying together the worlds of Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and 2.The latter of which released in December 2017 on along with the debut of the Nintendo Switch and the former being released as Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition in May 2020, with the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 release date set at a yet unknown date in September 2022.
“A vast world awaits in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the next game in the acclaimed RPG series from developer MONOLITHSOFT. Players will step into the roles of protagonists Noah and Mio amid turmoil between the hostile nations of Keves and Agnus. Six characters hailing from those nations will take part in a grand tale with “life” as its central theme. Explore a new world that will connect the futures of both Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, launching for Nintendo Switch in September 2022″, a description from Nintendo’s PR reads.
The original Xenoblade Chronicles was first released in 2010 on Nintendo Wii, where it quickly gained prominence as part of a fan campaign to get it localized in North America. Xenoblade Chronicles itself was inspired by Xenogears, a PlayStation RPG that won critical acclaim for its mind-bending story and fantastic soundtrack and was directed by Tetsuya Takahashi, who also served as the scenario writer on both Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and 2.
