Texas State Representative James Talarico posted a video on X on July 4 featuring the message that America is done being divided and that the country is unstoppable as one team for Independence Day. The clip, which includes patriotic imagery and a campaign-style montage, has drawn significant attention on the platform. According to replies, many users responded critically, accusing the Texas Democrat of hypocrisy and highlighting his past comments on national symbols.
The video shows a montage of scenes featuring Talarico speaking at a podium with a “TALARICO FOR TEXAS” sign. In the clip, Talarico states, “I’m tired of being divided into teams red versus blue, left versus right, rural versus urban because the truth is, we are all on the same team; you are on my team, and I am on yours. The most radical thing you can do in an era of division is bring people together because we are far more the same than we are different. Imagine who we could take on if we did it together. Imagine what we can change in this country if we did it together as one team; we are unstoppable.” Before ending with “Happy Fourth of July!” and “TALARICO FOR TEXAS”
According to the accompanying post, the video promotes a theme of unity on Independence Day. Talarico, a Democrat in the Texas House who is running for U.S. Senate, appears with diverse supporters in the clip.
Divided Voices on Talarico’s July 4th Unity Call
Critics referenced past statements and accused Talarico of hypocrisy, with one writing, “Mr. ‘the American flag is a complicated symbol’ is ready for unity.”
Others stated, “You’re doing the dividing. We’re not going to take it. Commie.” and “You *expletive*, it’s your Party that’s doing your best to sew division, so *expletive* off.”
Further replies highlighted policy disagreements, such as “Six genders, nonbinary God, people with uteruses, and open border is pretty divided,” “Were you not the *expletive* that said our great American flag was so controversial… You are Evil. You hate America, and Texas will never vote you into office,” and “You are a divider. Sit down.”
Fewer responses expressed support, including “Happy 4th of July, thanks for bringing hope back to millions of Texans!”
It remains unclear whether the post will influence broader discussions around unity or Talarico’s Senate campaign. The video continues to circulate as audiences respond to the message shared on Independence Day.
