Let’s set aside the excitement about the new lore stuff for now and talk about the other thing Warframe players are obsessed with: romance. It’s been a popular fixation ever since the dating was introduced in Warframe 1999. Now, Wisp fans in Warframe just got a treat because the next Protoframe is none other than Wisp, along with another popular Warframe. Basically, the cyborg posterior you liked too much just got a lovely new and human face card.
Wisp and Harrow are the Next Protoframes
During TennoCon 2025, Digital Extremes unveiled the new pair of Protoframes to be added to the growing selection of “humanized” Warframes. Harrow and Wisp are up next, and their design philosophy is heavily thematic with a clear focus on religion, as you can see from the image above. The projected release date for these new Protoframes is sometime near the end of 2025.
Harrow is rocking a hardcore cultist attire, which is to be expected given how his design is centered around worshipping abstract deities or powers. However, Wisp was certainly a surprise given how she appears to be a nun or some kind of clergy-person.
Wisp’s theme upon release was centered around Will-o’-Wisps, or basically fantasy ghosts that either help or haunt lost or wandering people. I suppose that’s somewhat similar to a woman of the cloth.
More importantly, however, is that these two popular Warframes now have human faces and skins, complete with their own voices and thematic origin stories. The new religious Protoframes are going to follow the Warframe 1999 storyline with a new upcoming chapter called “The Devil’s Triad,” involving Albrecht Entrati.
These two Protoframes and their complementary content are also going to be relevant to the upcoming Tau update, and their complementary quest is going to be a related side story, according to Digital Extremes. Still, it’s not clear yet how consequential The Devil’s Triad is going to be for The Old Peace storyline.
Protoframes are here to stay, and Wisp IS Romancable
As for those who are wondering whether Digital Extremes will continue the trend of releasing unique and humanized Protoframe skins for their Warframes, Digital Extremes basically implied a “yes” during the reveal for Wisp and Harrow’s Protoframe skins. Hence, with that in mind, it would also be fair to expect more Protoframe storylines similar to the most recent Minerva (Saryn), Velimir (Frost), Kaya (Nova), and Flare (Temple).
Also, like the original six Protoframes of 1999, Wisp and Harrow’s Protoframes are romanceable according to Kat Kingsley during TennoCon 2025, which is a huge undertaking given how much of the Protoframe romance is tied to the Warframe 1999 quest and Hex member dynamics. Besides, Wisp Protoframe is a devout nun. Why would you even think you have a chance?
