Politicians are no strangers to hecklers, and even someone as high up as the Vice President (or even the President) is not exempt from their fury. A speech by U.S. Vice President JD Vance for the University of Georgia turned tense Tuesday after a protester repeatedly interrupted his remarks with accusations over the administration’s Gaza policy, shouting, “You’re killing children!”
The disruption occurred on Tuesday, April 14, during a stop on the “This is the Turning Point” campus tour organized by Turning Point USA in Athens, Georgia. The event, held at Akins Ford Arena, drew a mixed crowd of supporters, critics, and demonstrators, with some protesters gathering outside before the speech carrying signs referencing religion and the war in Gaza.
Inside the venue, and as seen in the video, Vance was discussing faith and global conflict when a heckler interrupted, yelling, “Jesus doesn’t support genocide!” The vice president responded, “I agree Jesus Christ certainly does not support genocide,” before attempting to continue. Moments later, the protester escalated the confrontation, shouting, “You’re killing children!”
The audience reacted with a mix of boos and applause as security appeared to monitor the situation. Vance, maintaining his composure, pushed back on the accusation and defended the administration’s record.
According to Vance, “When we came in, the humanitarian situation in Gaza was an absolute catastrophe,” supposedly placing blame on the previous administration of Joe Biden. “Right now, you see more humanitarian aid coming into Gaza than any time in the past five years,” Vance added.
People Online are Disputing the Vice President’s Claims
JD Vance’s critics, however, show no signs of relenting even online, as viewers also echoed the sentiments of the heckler. One commenter from Reddit has even called out Vance’s reply to the heckler, “‘more humanitarian aide coming into gaza then anytime in the last five year’ umm? How true it this? does he mean supplying war mongers to bomb refugee camps as well as cut of water supply?”
Others attempted to make a joke, misquoting Vance’s answers, “‘We had to destroy the village to save it. And that’s what makes me so proud to serve in this administration,'” pointing out the irony of the current war with Iran. Because of Vance’s recent appearances for TPUSA, many suspect that he is also set to run for President in the upcoming 2028 election. It’s worth noting that the event is part of a broader campus tour by Turning Point USA, aimed at mobilizing conservative student voters ahead of upcoming elections.
