In hell, there will be nothing but law, or in the case of Cult of the Lamb, nothing but Doctrines for your followers. Doctrines will dictate just how well your cult will run, even without your presence since you’re a little too busy disemboweling heretics and nonbelievers. You’ll want to make sure you unlock these 10 best Doctrines first in Cult of the Lamb so that your unholy flock will be led astray.
Belief in Materialism Trait
First off, you’ll want to mold your followers into a specific mindset to easily manipulate them. You might think that the Materialist Trait for your followers is a negative, but you can turn it into your advantage.
Because if every one of your followers is Materialistic, you can just build them some fancy and cheap Sleeping Quarters and there will be a substantial boost to their Faith. It’s an endless loop of Faith farming. Just upgrade their Sleeping Quarters and have the faithful ones gather more resources for upgrading.
Grass Eater Trait
Do you want to go cheap on your followers without repercussion? Here’s the trick. Just feed them meals made out of grass and they’ll be happy and ready to serve. Now, you don’t need to collect more seeds and diversify your crops.
You can just specialize in grass and make your whole cult subsist on one food base. You’ll want this as early as possible in order to save time and space in your base.
Industrious Trait
You want resources faster since they allow you to build more so the Industrious Trait is just a must-have if you’re starting out. Letting your followers do all the base building means you can focus on Crusades and other more active activities.
Besides, you also want to maximize each day in Cult of the Lamb, and followers working faster lets you save both time and maintenance resources.
Sacral Architecture Trait
Speaking of grabbing some of the best Doctrines in Cult of the Lamb as early as possible, look out for Sacral Architecture Trait. Early on, you will have an empty base, ripe for buildings. This Doctrine makes it so you’re hitting two birds with one stone.
Each new building strengthens your followers’ Faith. It also still has its uses later on. You can just demolish some buildings and rebuild them to increase Faith again and again. You can pick the Devotee Trait over this, but you can’t automate Sermons so that’s more tedious.
Belief in Absolution Trait
Seeing as you can just kill some followers instead of putting them in prison, this Doctrine is a net positive overall. You can easily avoid putting any dissenting follower in prison if you’re resourceful enough.
That means you get a lot of Faith every day, in addition to each new building being constructed. And with all the Faith boosts you have, you’re not likely to get some dissenting followers anyway.
Ritual of Resurrection
If you do lose a follower either by killing them or through something else, then the Ritual of Resurrection is there as your best friend. It’s one of the best Doctrines in Cult of the Lamb for its very purpose of preserving your followers.
Pick it as early as you can or you’ll regret it later on. Because you’ll inevitably lose some followers. The great thing about this Doctrine is how it still lets you resurrect the followers at the same level they died. Death has become meaningless in your cult, as long as you have Bones.
Alms for the Poor Ritual
In case you want to supercharge your Faith boosting again along with Loyalty for your followers, here’s a good Doctrine. Use money to practically bribe everyone in your cult. That ensures they don’t dissent.
It goes well with the Belief in Absolution Trait Doctrine. Moreover, this is one of the cheapest ways to boost your followers’ Loyalty as other methods might require Bones or are too tedious.
Loyalty Enforcer
While on the topic of generating Loyalty, you can just brute force it. The other choice is Tax Enforcer and it’s terrible since the money it generates is paltry. It’s too low to afford you a feedback loop with Alms for the Poor Ritual.
Loyalty Enforcer at least raises Loyalty. Again, this also works in tandem with Belief in Absolution for that Loyalty plus Faith combo that can pave a smooth way for your cult’s development.
Ritual Fast
While you’re at it, you can also just tell your followers to tighten their belts through hunger, for three days. That’s three full days of not worrying about what to feed them. You can go on a Crusade during that duration.
And since your followers can’t really cook on their own, think of Ritual Fast as some kind of day off for you. It’s one of the handiest among the best Doctrines in Cult of the Lamb. Definitely don’t go on a playthrough without it.
Glory Through Toil Ritual
Glory Through Toil is something that you might want to pair with Ritual Fast. That way, you can just leave the base for three days while you’re on a jolly Crusade and come back losing much productivity.
It’s almost an automatic pick if you choose Ritual Fast. It will also allow you to finish any pending construction in a rush (sort of) without dedicating too much resources. Basically, it’s free slave labor provided by your followers.
