An elderly woman in Florida picked up her new license plate after she renewed her vehicle registration. Little did she know that her plate would cause her such surprise, as one could easily read a phrase some might consider inappropriate or even spicy. To her shock, her family wants her to keep it, and she might just do exactly that.
The woman’s name is Nancy Dello Stritto, a 76-year-old woman from Pompano Beach. KHOU 11, a CBS affiliate, shared her license plate story on TikTok, which quickly went viral. It garnered 3.4 million views, 337,600 likes, and more than 8,500 comments.
The elderly Florida woman came across the unique license plate once she picked up her mail. It read, “SQZ A55.” However, due to the font used in Florida license plates, it could easily be interpreted as someone asking for their “bottom” to be squeezed. That’s certainly something Nancy didn’t want to communicate while driving her car.
“I don’t think a senior who is almost 77 will be driving around with a plate that has that to say,” she told CBS News Miami. “When I saw that, I went ballistic. I said, ‘How could that pass inspection?‘”
That question remains to be answered. As per the outlet, Florida license plates are manufactured at a North Florida state prison, and Nancy’s was mailed from the Broward County Property Tax Collector’s office. In cases such as hers, vehicle owners can exchange “offensive” license plates for free.
Despite her reservations, neighbors at her retirement community had a good laugh with her license plate. One of them, an 89-year-old man, upon hearing the “squeezing” license plate would be hers for the next 10 years, just said, “Good,” prompting Nancy to laugh, as shown in the report also shared by WTVR CBS 6.
Her family seemed to agree with the elderly man. Reportedly, her sons are pretty much on board with “A55,” as well as her friends. In total, 16 of her loved ones have voted in favor of the ludicrous license plate, while only one, perhaps Nancy herself, opposed it.
Florida Citizens React
Her story sparked multiple responses, mostly from viewers who, just like her family, wanted her to keep the plate. One said, “You COULD NOT pry that license plate out of my cold, dead hands.” Another one added, “The universe keeps on blessing the wrong people.”
Another called the license plate a non-issue. One wrote, “Lobster too buttery, steak too juicy.” Some even believed she actually loved the license plate from the beginning, with one adding, “She called the news to tell everybody instead of filling out a form.”
For the time being, it appears that the 76-year-old will just keep the license plate and fully embrace its silliness. She said, “I’m resigned to it; maybe it was destined for it to be on my car. I can handle it. Maybe I’ll even get some honks.”
