The Boston wasteland in Fallout 4 is full of its own little Butcher Petes, and if you want to survive, you’re going to have to be a Butcher Pete yourself. If you’re going to be hacking and whacking and smacking, you’re going to need atom bomb babies loaded with power. We’re talking about the best weapons in Fallout 4. If you manage to get your hands on one of them, you can forget about any other weapon in the game. And you know what? Here are five of them for added playstyles.
5. Big Boy M.I.R.V.
Damage | Around 2,800 if all six shots hit |
Ammo | Mini nuke |
Range | 117 |
Accuracy | 75 |
Weight | 30.7 |
Special Effect | Fires 6 shots at once while consuming only one round. |
These mini nukes will obliterate your target, their whole family tree, and anyone unrelated in the vicinity, including you. It’s overkill; that’s why it deserves a spot here for any of you who prefer to spread more of Vault-Tec’s ‘love’ for its wasteland competitors.
The M.I.R.V. mod of the Big Boy (Legendary Fat Man) is a special one, by the way. Because it fires six mini-nukes at once. No one really calculated how much damage there is per shot, but no one really needed to. With this weapon, you’ll be vaporizing and leveling whole cities; at that point, who cares about the math?
The best part is that these six shots won’t consume six rounds of ammo, just one. Again, forget about the math and indulge in radiation. This is the best panic button weapon you can have.
4. Throatslicer (Ideally with the Cutlass mod)
Damage | 20 |
Ammo | – |
Range | Melee |
Accuracy | Melee |
Weight | 2.0 |
Special Effect | Targets bleed for 25 points of additional damage. |
It looks meager compared to the nuke, but at least it won’t kill you.
It’s a Throatslicer melee weapon with the Cutlass mod. This mod further enhances the weapon’s damage and Bleed damage. You are not going to use this one for direct confrontations (that’s not how you slice throats).
It’s for stealth or ninja playstyles. Pair it with a Stealth Boy and all the sneaky perks you can grab. Then, sneak up on enemies and show them that the old stabby methods still work and that war never changes. It’s not flashy, but it’s fun.
3. Explosive Minigun
Damage | 8 |
Ammo | 5mm round |
Range | 131 |
Accuracy | 35 |
Weight | 27.4 |
Special Effect | Bullets Explore On Impact For 15 Points Of AoE Damage. |
Unlike the Throatslicer, this one wouldn’t work as well without its Explosive mod. You also can’t craft that mod; you’ll need to be lucky by defeating a legendary enemy.
If you manage to win it, then no boss will be able to stand against you (and you’ll still be safe compared to using the Big Boy M.I.R.V.). Each round explodes, and when paired with the Minigun’s firing rate, you’re going to be dealing several little explosions too often.
It’s hilarious how the explosion damage is even more powerful compared to the weapon’s base damage. An alternative is the Ashmaker unique Minigun (The Big Dig quest), which replaces the explosion with fire damage. It’s safer to use in short range, though the up-front damage is lower.
2. Wounding Combat Shotgun
Damage | 50 |
Ammo | Shotgun shell |
Range | 47 |
Accuracy | 23 |
Weight | 7 |
Special Effect | Targets Bleed for 25 points of additional damage. |
You don’t want any ordinary and boring Combat Shotgun because the Wounding variant is too good to ignore as far as the best weapons in Fallout 4 go.
Apparently, the Bleed damage applies to each pellet. It’s broken. Game over for anyone in Fallout 4 that isn’t you. The only downside is the shotgun range, and it’s not exactly comfy to use if you’re dealing against sniper enemies.
That’s why you’ll have to pair it with a tanky build so you can stay alive long enough to rip enemies to shreds after getting within a medium distance of them. This one is also randomized loot, by the way, and you have to get lucky after defeating legendary enemies.
1. Overseer’s Guardian
Damage | 55 |
Ammo | .45 round |
Range | 119 |
Accuracy | 70 |
Weight | 15.7 |
Special Effect | Shoots an additional projectile. |
If you don’t like playing with the loot roulette too much, then the Overseer’s Guardian is a guaranteed weapon you can obtain in Vault 81 from Alexis Combes. You can acquire it early on and even take it to the end of the game, making it one of the most convenient among the best weapons in Fallout 4.
Firing two bullets means double damage, and the weapon is already stacked with some impressive modifications, saving you some components.
It will be outclassed by the Explosive Minigun as an automatic weapon, of course, or even the Wounded Combat Shotgun as a close-quarters gun. But until you get those, this is your best shot at shooting through the Institute to find Shaun.
