Marvel’s Spider-Man was a revelation when it was released in 2018. A shot across the bow Insomniac Games fired to let the world know they were taking Spider-Man to new heights. The hotly anticipated sequel doesn’t take its foot off the gas, and once again, they’ve created one of if not the best Marvel game ever. With a huge open world, two playable characters, and a massive story, picking out what to do can be daunting. Well, let me be your virtual tour guide and point you toward the things you should do first in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

5. Get To Know the Spider-Men

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sports not just one but two of our favorite web crusaders to play as. Peter Parker and Miles Morales, despite their unfortunate penchant for attracting radioactive spiders, couldn’t be more different. One has the Symbiote, and the other one loves to play with electricity, but both are capable crime fighters with many of their own stories and supporting casts to learn. Whichever you pick, no need to worry; each of them shares the experience points and resources you find.

4. Create Your Own Challenge

Spider-Man 2 features an absolute trove of options and settings to customize. You can use these options to configure the entire game experience to your liking. Beyond difficulty levels and some of the best accessibility-related offerings ever, you can get granular with the game’s rules. You can change the game speed, make it so all quick-time events auto-complete (a personal favorite of mine), and even control the physics of the web-slinging. Get comfortable and find which options are best for you.

3. Rock Some Fresh Marvel Inspired Suits

As you can see in the picture above, you can wear some pretty iconic costumes inspired by other classic Marvel heroes and villains. Miles Morales has a lot of great costumes that reference heroes like Black Panther and Wolverine, while Peter Parker has just about every suit from all of the different film versions of Spider-Man. Pick some heroic duds and cosplay as your other favorite Marvel characters for a while.

2. Take in the Sights and Sounds of New York

New York is very much a part of this game’s fabric and DNA as much as the radioactive spider poison flowing in Peter’s veins. Thanks to the new tech under the hood and the power of the PlayStation 5, it’s never quite felt this alive before. Explore famous landmarks, visit some historical museums, or try to spot famous Marvel locations like Doctor Strange’s Sanctum or swing by the Avengers Tower. The city is never short of things to see and people to save.

1. Get your Swing On

I’m unsure if you know this, but Peter Parker and Miles Morales are certified swingers. Whether it’s with slingshots, using all four limbs, or crowded public spaces, nothing really stops them from swinging anywhere they can. Make sure to upgrade their suits first thing, as the upgraded materials will allow them to swing harder and faster than any Marvel supervillain can handle.
