Marvel’s Star Wars comics were its flagship of sorts, featuring main characters of the original trilogy and running for 75 issues. Star Wars has always had a piece of its heart in comics. To help the launch of A New Hope, Marvel released a six-issue series in 1977. While other storylines and miniseries for Star Wars will continue to be published, this long-running storyline will find its end in a dramatic fashion.

Star Wars: Empire Ascendant #1 will be a 56-page epic. The series has followed the Rebel Alliance and predominantly Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa along with fan-favorite characters Doctor Aphra and Beilert Valance. It has told the story of the events between A New Hope and the Empire Strikes Back, the fourth and fifth episodes in the Skywalker Saga.

The story will follow the Rebel Alliance setting up their base on the ice planet Hoth, as well as Darth Vader attempting to hunt them down. The story will also reveal the final fates of Doctor Aphra and Beilert Valance.

Star Wars: Empire Ascendant #1 is written by Charles Soule, Greg Pak, Simon Spurrier,  and Ethan Sacks. Art is done by Luke Ross, Roland Boschi, as well as other supplemental artists across the epic-length comic.

It will be coming to stores this December wherever comics are sold, and available digitally, as well. With the Skywalker Saga movies coming to an end this December with the ninth episode, The Rise of Skywalker, it is fitting to see this chapter of the events between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back come to a close. However, there are still many stories to explore throughout the galaxy. And so long as Disney owns both Marvel and Star Wars, it’s doubtful we will see an overall end to the galaxy far, far away in comics any time soon.
