As we now know, Spider-Man will return to the MCU for at least another installment of his solo series and another film in the long-running cinematic universe. While cooler heads prevailed and both sides were able to come to an agreement, it seems that Spider-Man actor Tom Holland was pretty important to making this deal happen.

This comes from The Hollywood Reporter, who also states that Holland made “multiple appeals to Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger and Sony film chairman Tom Rothman to reach a resolution”.

Back in August, Holland and Marvel boss Kevin Feige spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the split. Holland was grateful for his time with Disney and was hopeful about the character’s future:

โ€œBasically, weโ€™ve made five great movies,โ€

โ€œItโ€™s been five amazing years. Iโ€™ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that Iโ€™m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life. Itโ€™s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and weโ€™ll find new ways to make it even cooler.โ€

However, it’s no surprise that Tom Holland would want to keep this character around in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During the press tour for Spider-Man: Homecoming, the actor was asked if a future team-up between Spidey and Tom Hardy’s Venom was in the cards. Holland was down for this team-up but he was adamant that said film would have to take place in the MCU:

โ€œYou know, Iโ€™d love to make a movie with Tom Hardy, and if we ever got the chance to make a Venom movie together, that would be super cool, but his movie would have to take place in the MCU because Iโ€™m not giving up that ticket.”

Luckily, Holland won’t have to give up his ticket in the Marvel Cinematic Universe anytime soon as the third solo film in the Spider-Man trilogy is set to hit theaters July 16th, 2021.

What are you hoping to see in the third Spidey film? Who do you think will be the main villain of the movie? Do you believe Sony and Disney will be able to come to terms with an extension to this deal after Holland’s new MCU contract is up? Let us know in the comments below!
