Resident Evil 3 fans got a nice surprise on the Tuesday’s State of Play. Most people expected the game to be revealed by Sony during the event and they weren’t disappointed.

What did come as a bit of a surprise is what’s riding along with the upcoming remake. It turns out Capcom has been lightly teasing its fans all along.

Remember Project Resistance? The Resident Evil game that no one really wanted?

It turns out Capcom always planned it to be the online mode attached to Resident Evil 3. This was confirmed during State of Play in the most cheeky way possible.

As the announcement trailer began to run, the narrator quipped, now let’s check out the unannounced campaign mode for Project Resistance.

Resident Evil 3 | Announcement Trailer | PS4

The video starts out with a black screen, lots of running and screaming. Then, a first-person perspective continued to keep viewers in the dark on just what was going on. It wasn’t until around the 1:30 mark that Jill Valentine explodes onto the screen.

From that point forward, familiar characters with a fresh coat of paint continue popping up. It isn’t until this point it becomes crystal clear the whole thing was actually the reveal trailer for the Resident Evil 3 remake.

The final 10 seconds of the video explains Project Resistance is the title’s online mode. Quite the misdirect after months of behaving as if what is now a mode, was the only new game on the way from Capcom.

If you caught the trailer this morning and are hyped beyond words, there’s even more good news. We’re not going to have to wait long for the new remake’s arrival.

Capcom also announced the release date for the game during Sony’s State of Play. Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil: Project Resistance will be arriving on consoles as a package deal, on April 3, 2020.
