A limited series based on Stephen King’s Carrie is in development at FX reports Collider. According to the site, FX is reteaming with MGM Television following the success of Fargo.

King released Carrie, his first published novel, in 1974. It follows a young girl with telekinetic powers who is tormented at school by her peers and at home by her religious mother. Everything comes to a head at one of the most famous Prom scenes in any medium.

The novel remains one of the author’s most famous works. It’s so popular that it has already been adapted several times. Brian De Palma released his horror classic in 1976. It starred Sissy Spacek as Carrie, Piper Laurie as her mother, and a young John Travolta as one of the girl’s tormentors. The film received a sequel, The Rage: Carrie 2, in 1999. Kimberly Peirce directed a remake in 2013 with Chloe Grace Moretz as Carrie and Julianne Moore as her mother.

No actors are attached as this project is in very early development. There isn’t even a script. But Collider’s source tells them FX might change things up a bit. This time around, either a person of color or a trans actor will play Carrie. However, FX declined to comment.

People are adapting Stephen King’s works more and more frequently now. 2019 saw a sequel to It, as well as adaptations of Doctor Sleep, Pet Semetary, and In the Tall Grass. There are also film adaptations of Salem’s Lot, The Long Walk, and From A Buick 8 currently in development. And that’s just at the movies. TV shows based on King’s works like Mr. Mercedes, Creepshow, and Castle Rock are still going strong. We’ll be getting The Outsider on HBO in early 2020. The Stand and Lisey’s Story also have TV shows in development.

That’s quite a lot of Stephen King. Are you interested in seeing Carrie’s story again? Let us know in the comments below.
