Cyberpunk 2077 has missed its April release window and will now aim for September 17. The announcement comes from a tweet by CD Projekt Red, in which Marcin Iwiński and Adam Badowski – co-founder and head of studio respectively – confirmed the delay.

Cyberpunk 2077 Is Playable But Needs Polish

In the statement, CD Projekt Red stated that “We are currently at the stage where the game [Cyberpunk 2077] is complete and playable, but there’s still work to be done. Night City is massive – full of stories, content, and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, fixing and polishing.”

The statement adds that Cyberpunk 2077 aims to be their crowning achievement for this generation, an ambitious task considering the immensely popular Witcher 3 hit 20 million lifetime units sold last year.

No Stranger To The Delay Game

The delay to Cyberpunk 2077 is nothing out of the ordinary. CD Projekt Red also delayed the Witcher 3, pushing its release from February 2015 to May of that same year. The worlds crafted by the Warsaw-based game’s developer are immense in scale. Witcher 3 boasted a 70+ hour game – not counting DLC. Many players delved deep into the systems, and one player spent over 1800 hours immersed in the game world. They still hadn’t completed the game to 100% in that time.

Updates Come, Updates Go

CD Projekt Red has been quiet recently. After announcing the surprising role Keanu Reeves would play – check out the sweet figures here – there have been only a few tidbits revealed. In the tweet, they state that the fans can “Expect more regular updates on progress as we get closer to the new release date.”

Let’s hope those updates don’t involve another delay.
