The Bearded Ladies, the Team behind Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, has a new game out now on the Epic Games Store! The new title is Corruption 2029, and similarly to the Swedish game studios’ previous game, this is also an XCOM style tactics game.
The Bearded Ladies is a small independent game studio based in Malmö, Sweden. They are made up fo several AAA industry veterans, having worked on titles like Hitman and PayDay. After completing their last project, Mutant Year Zero DLC, Seed of Evil back in 2019, the team began work on Corruption 2029. And if their work on the previous title is any indication, this game is sure to have quality strategy elements. Of course, Mutant Year Zero was very well received, earning a 9/10 score from Gamespot, a “Very Positive” review score on Steam, and 78 on Metacritic. Consequently, it is plain to see why people have high hopes for this new adventure in the same genre.
Of course, the setting of Corruption 2029 is a little more grounded. The setting is still sci-fi, but you won’t find any talking ducks in this one. Set in the future, players will enter “New America” and fight an authoritarian regime. And players must discover the connection between this foe and a disaster known as “the corruption.”
Corruption 2029 will Feature More XCOM Style Gameplay
What is the connection between the regime and the corruption? Players must plan and battle their way through fortified streets and enemy compounds to discover the truth. To that end, players take control of an upgradable squad and utilize stealth and cover-based combat to maximize efficiency. Control powerful abilities like invisibility, cyborg augments, and unique equipment to prevail. Generally, you may be outnumbered, but the element of surprise is a powerful ally. If you want to check out the almost 30 min long gameplay demo, you can watch that here.
The developers claim that Corruption 2029 is intentionally challenging, and will “test the mettle of even the most experienced tactical gamers.” At an attractive price point of only $20, Corruption 2029 is now available! You can find it for PC on the Epic Store. Can’t get enough XCOM style tactics? Read how we think Phoenix Point expands on the genre here.
