Making it a little easier to stay indoors and keep safe, Sony has just announced via a blog post two new reasons (actually 4 new reasons) to lock the doors, relax on the couch, lean back, and play video games. The recently announced “Play At Home” initiative is a two-part system targeted to aid both gamers and small game developers amidst the pandemic.

For gamers both Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey will be available free of charge, from April 15th through to May 5th. Yes, completely free for everyone with access to the PlayStation Store. Just hit the download button to redeem the games and welcome them into your library forever.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection features the original three PS3 Uncharted games from award-winning developer Naughty Dog. Each of these games tells a different story in the saga of Nathan Drake as he embarks on perilous quests to uncover lost secrets and hidden treasures. All of the games have been “meticulously remastered” for the PS4, with each making their way into the PS3’s Essential Greatest hits.

Journey is an artistic adventure-platformer by developer Thatgamecompany which leads players on a wonderous artistic path of self-discovery. The intertwining gameplay, art, and music establish a mood of mystery and reverence. At the same time, the seemingly endless desert-scapes offer surreal backdrops to evoke a dwarfing spectacle of wonder and awe.

The second component of the initiative offers to establish a fund to assist smaller gaming studios that might be facing financial hardships.

“Independent developers are vital to the heart and soul of the gaming community and we understand the hardships and financial struggles that many smaller gaming studios are facing. With that, SIE has developed a fund to support them during this time. We have earmarked $10 million to support our independent development partners” –Jim Ryan, President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment.

With Sony stating that more information on the fund will be made available soon. Are you happy with the news for Play At Home? Let us know below!
