This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information.

If there’s one thing we can count on more than the sun coming up each morning it’s a new version of Fifa and Pro Evo coming out every year. American fans can add Madden to this list as well. As long as EA and Konami are making money they will churn out these games until the cows come home.

I am quite a fan of Pro Evolution Soccer, but that’s beside the point.

This year, Pro Evo was destined to have a bit more as Konami had announced a DLC pack for the summers’ Euro 2020 tournament. This may not mean much to any American readers out there but just think of it as the World Cup, only with European teams. It gives us more of a chance.

The trouble is, thanks to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, Konami had to delay the DLC indefinitely as the tournament itself has been postponed until 2021.

Originally due to release in April, it made sense for Konami to delay the DLC until next years’ Pro Evo and tie it in with the tournament. I’m sure they’ll do that but they have also decided that with the work already done they may as well just release it this year anyway, because, why not?

The free DLC will now be available from June 4th and will give fans a small taster of what the tournament could have been like. It only features St. Petersburg and Wembley stadiums, the latter of which I hope you’re at least aware of thanks to the NFL.

55 teams will take part and will be whittled down to 24 qualifying teams when you play, meaning any number of fantasy tournaments can take place. In a rare move for Pro Evo, each team will be fully licensed and if you care, it will also feature the official trophy and ball.

It might sound like a bizarre move on Konami’s part and maybe it is, but if Mario & Sonic are still visiting the postponed Tokyo Olympics there’s no reason that Europe’s elite soccer players can’t do the same with their respective event.

Plus, free content is always good.

Let us know in the comments if you are happy with this news and if you’re American be sure to let us know if you have actually played the game. There’s a reason David Beckham went to LA Galaxy all those years ago after all. Long live the beautiful game.
