If there’s one thing Arkane has built a reputation around, it’s delivering games of incredibly high quality. Taking one look at their anthology of titles, I’m sure you’d agree in at least one area or another. Their Dishonored series is likely on that list, and it is for me too. With that high quality though, Arkane won’t shy away from having to take extra time to make a game the best it can be. Today proves that ideology hasn’t changed. The team announces today that Deathloop, their upcoming first-person shooter, is being delayed to Q2 (from April to June) of 2021. The team took to Twitter to announce the news and discuss their reasoning.

The delay primarily comes as a result of changes due to the ongoing pandemic COVID-19. This pandemic has caused developers to begin working from home, and thus there are some challenges associated with that. With all the changes, Deathloop has proven to be taking longer than originally thought. With that, the game needs a bit more time in the oven to ensure a high level of quality and polish. As a final note, Arkane Lyon had the following to say to the community:

Thank you for your support and excitement. Your positive feedback has helped fuel us as we continue to work from the confines of our homes. We can’t wait to share more details about Deathloop with you, so keep your eyes open for our next update, coming soon.”

This is saddening news, but necessary. No delay likely would’ve resulted in a rush near the end of development, endangering both developer quality-of-life and game quality. It would’ve been a loss for everyone so, in my opinion, this is justified. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this situation though. Do you think Deathloop needed to be delayed?
