When it comes to tactical team-based first-person shooters, there are a few games that come to mind. Arma 3 and Rainbow Six Siege are likely two of those games, but another that’s beloved among fans is Insurgency: Sandstorm. The title focuses on close-quarters combat and intense battles to create a realistic and enjoyable shooter. It’s received much praise among fans, including a Very Positive review rating on Steam. Today, that acclaim increases with the latest update to the game. Insurgency: Sandstorm’s 1.8 update, Operation Breakaway, is now available for free to all players! You can check out the update trailer below.
What’s in Insurgency: Sandstorm’s Latest Update?
Operation Breakaway brings heaps of new content to Insurgency: Sandstorm, most notably a new map. Tell reimagines a classic from the original Insurgency, bringing it to modern standards and offering a lot for new and veteran players. Between lengthy streets and close quarters buildings, Tell offers various options for each type of player. You can play Tell across the Push, Domination, Firefight, Checkpoint, Hardcore Checkpoint, and Outpost game modes.
You’ll need some new tools to navigate Tell, and Insurgency: Sandstorm has just the thing for you. You have the AUG A3, FAMAS F1, and three new underbarrel shotgun attachments for both teams. There’s the M26 MASS for Security, Buckshot Launcher for Insurgents, and Masterkey for both factions. When navigating some of the tight corners, something tells me these underbarrel attachments will be invaluable. These join some new foregrips for all Primary Weapons (excluding machine guns and anti-material rifles).
These join the new mode (which you likely saw in the description of Tell), named Outpost. This is a reimagining of the original mode from 2014’s Insurgency. This co-op mode puts you on the defensive against various AI opponents, with just your weapons and limited supply points. Outpost is available on Tell, Crossing, Ministry, Hillside, Outskirts, and Power Plant. This joins the first phase of the planned AI overhaul, adding an extra level of intensity to Insurgency: Sandstorm.
There’s plenty more coming to Insurgency: Sandstorm in terms of cosmetics, performance improvements, bug fixes, and more! If you want the full rundown, you can find the update patch notes here.
