For those looking for a good dose of beat-’em-up action this year, King of Fighters XIV: Ultimate Edition has you covered. SNK has released a thrilling announcement trailer for the game which you can view below:
As you might expect, King of Fighters XIV Ultimate Edition features not only the base game but all previously-released DLC. It features a whopping 58 characters – eight of whom are DLC characters. You can also clad your fighters with new duds thanks to 10 extra DLC costumes. And if you want to spruce up your PlayStation 4 home screen, you have access to 10 unique PS4 themes.
The DLC characters on offer include Rock Howard, Vanessa, Ryuji Yamakazi, Whip, Heidern, Blue Mary, Oswald, and Najd. Meanwhile KOF XIV Ultimate Edition‘s DLC costumes include Classic Kyo, Nightmare Geese, Classic Iori, Athena Asamiya KOF ’98/Shun’Ei Kung-Fu Suit, Nakoruru Kamuikotan Girls’ School Uniform, Kula Sundress, Angel Diabla, Meitenkuten Pyjamas, and Sylvie Little Red Riding Hood.
Released initially in 2016, King of Fighters XIV sold 46,474 units in Japan in its first three days. By November 2017, SNK reported that the period between mid-2016 and mid-2017 had become very profitable due to the game’s success and its DLC characters. At the 2016 Game Awards, KOF XIV was nominated for Best Fighting Game but ultimately lost out to Street Fighter V.
King of Fighters XV was announced at EVO 2019 and originally slated for a 2020 release. However, complications arising due to the COVID-19 pandemic ensured its postponement. An announcement was originally scheduled for January 6, 2020 but was postponed again with SNK promising to inform fans when a new date is set.
Regardless, North American fans of the long-running fighting franchise can purchase KOF XIV Ultimate Edition on January 20, 2021 digitally on PlayStation 4.
