The realm of Asgard is an absolute wonder. Great warriors walk alongside the Mighty Thor, Yggdrasil stands tall over the people, and strange animals roam the land. One such creature that Eivor (or in this realm’s case, Havi) encounters is a wolf pup. But if you’re playing the game, you know that the wolf is significant in Eivor/Havi’s lives. During the “Extended Family” quest, Havi has the pup captured and caged, only to soon discover that it has grown to a full-sized wolf. Havi lets his guard down to discuss plans with fellow Asgardians when the wolf eventually breaks out, causing a stir among the people. Havi then chases down the wolf to a small field where the boss fight commences. It’s here where the fun begins.

Main Points to Consider

The Lost Wolf critical points

The Lost Wolf is one of the earlier boss fights you’ll come across while in the Asgard world. It’s only standing toe-to-paw with the beast, so no outside interference will get in the way. He’s bigger than your average wolf, and rocks seem to fly and follow in his path. The main thing to keep in mind (as with almost every fight in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla) is that you need full rations and a full quiver of arrows. They’re extremely vital to winning and fighting with merely a weapon will not suffice. One more thing to keep in mind, the skill tree works like a pick-and-choose system, where some abilities and upgrades might apply to one player or another. So, I’ll try to keep the ability guidance to a minimum but some will be helpful in your fight against the Lost Wolf.

The Lost Wolf is pretty good at being a combative nuisance. He’ll lunge at you with his bites, hurl a series of rocks, and dig underground to only pop up and strike you. Comparatively, there are three critical hit points on the Lost Wolf’s body: two on his arms, and one on the right side of his hip. And of course, performing abilities is also a big help.

Overcoming the Beast

When the battle begins, study the wolf’s sharp movements for a moment or two. You’ll notice that his lunges won’t strike far. He’ll do a one-two mouth attack if you’re within his proximity, but this is where you’ll have to tango with the beast. Dodge, dodge, dodge. That second bite can catch you out of nowhere, so it’s best to juke him until he tires out for a second. Here, you can aim for his critical points. They won’t do a bunch of damage, but the lesser the better when it comes to his health. Keep dodging and striking to lower his health bar; eventually, he’ll just crawl himself into the ground and start to move around quickly. Watch out for his incoming trail, for it could literally throw Havi off of his feet.

Also, the wolf (about 2/3 way of his health) will chuck a series of stones at you. It’s easy to get entangled and trapped when one hits you, so you must dodge them and start aiming for his head. Unfortunately, this boss fight requires rinse-and-repeat methods of dodging and striking. I found that – after my fifth attempt with the Lost Wolf – alternating between shooting arrows and delivering heavy attacks when he was close to me seemed to do the trick. It does take a bit to slay the beast, so don’t overwhelm yourself with impatient combos.

You need to take your time with him if you are going to finish this section. The dodge and strike method is very similar to the Dark Souls series, so it’s merely a matter of being patient and striking at the right moment. It’s not a complicated boss battle – just a tedious one at best. Once the fight is finished, Havi will be set to execute the wolf. But a certain individual comes to interfere. I won’t spoil it here in case you haven’t gotten to this point in the narrative, though.

The Lost Wolf stone chuck

Lastly, I’ll name a few abilities that helped me and others in their struggle against the Lost Wolf. I used Harpoon Impalement, Dive of the Valkyries, and the Mark of Death. Especially with the third one, these were a big help in somewhat staggering the animal to get an extra combo in. The Lost Wolf is just one of the many bosses to battle in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
