Stardew Valley recently received a massive update filled with great content, including a Special Orders board that tasks the player with some more in-depth quests. One of these quests is given to you by the local Wizard, who wants you to find some Ectoplasm in exchange for some great rewards. Here’s where to find it, and everything else to know about this Special Order.

Special Orders

To unlock the Special Orders board, you’ll need to make sure you’ve updated your Stardew Valley game to the most recent update, 1.5. Once you have, you’ll be able to access the Special Orders board on Fall 2 of Year 1, or whenever you enter the town if your file is already past that date.

These quests are a little different than the typical “Help Wanted” quests you find on the board in front of Pierre’s. Special Orders are much more difficult and have longer completion times, as well as granting more valuable rewards. You can accept a new Special Order quest every Monday, regardless of whether you’ve finished the ones you already have or not.

A Curious Substance

The Wizard, M. Rasmodius, posts two different Special Orders, neither of which are repeatable. One of them is called “A Curious Substance,” and it explains that he is looking for an “extremely rare goop” that can be found after slaying ghosts in the local mines. The Wizard will offer seven days for a window to complete this quest. The item he’s looking for is Ectoplasm, and you’ll need to find it by killing ghosts.

Head to the mines in town and take the elevator down to level 51. Ghosts can appear anywhere on levels 51 to 79. If you haven’t unlocked these levels yet, you’ll need to make your way down. Once you find a ghost, you won’t necessarily find some Ectoplasm. Ghosts have only a 9.5% chance to drop the item when slain, so it may take a few before you get the item.

Your Reward

For filling this Special Order, you’ll immediately receive a nice 2,500g. However, the next day, you’ll receive the recipe for a Mini-Obelisk. This fantastic item allows you to warp within your own farm’s land area. You need to craft two of these obelisks, then place them somewhere outside. By interacting with one, you’ll be warped to the other, allowing you to fast travel between the two points that you choose.

In order to craft the Mini-Obelisk, you’ll need 30 hardwood, 20 solar essence, and three gold bars. However, you’ll need two of them, so you’ll have to double those numbers.

If this guide helped you in your quest to acquire Ectoplasm in Stardew Valley, be sure to let us know in the comments below. As well, share it around so it can help others.
