Here is some good news for Henry Cavill, Superman, and Marvel fans. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill spoke about his time playing Superman and believes that his time as the famed Kryptonian may not be over while also mentioning a possible Marvel role. He sees an opportunity to continue telling the story of this iteration of Superman, especially after Superman’s decision to kill Zod in Man of Steel.
“There is still a lot of storytelling for me to do as a Superman, and I would absolutely love the opportunity,” Cavill told THR:
The killing of Zod gave a reason for the character never to kill again. Superman falling to the ground and screaming afterward — I don’t think that was originally in the script, but I wanted to show the pain he had. I did far more emotional takes they didn’t choose; tears were happening. He just killed the last remaining member of his species. That’s the choice he made in that moment, and he’ll never do that again. There’s an opportunity for growth after that, to explore the psyche of Superman as a deep, seemingly invulnerable god-like being but with real feeling on the inside. As I always say, ‘The cape is still in the closet.’”
Henry Cavill’s last performance as Superman was in Zack Snyder’s Justice League and while Cavill hasn’t confirmed a return as this character, he hasn’t completely ruled it out either. Henry Cavill was asked about switching universes and joining Marvel. Cavill did have some thoughts about who he would want to play if he joined the MCU.
“I’m never going to say a Marvel character that is already being played by someone else … because everyone’s doing such an amazing job,” Cavill said. “However, I have the internet and I have seen the various rumors about Captain Britain and that would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernized version of that — like the way they modernized Captain America. There’s something fun about that, and I do love being British.”
Apparently, people have an interest in the next role Cavill will play as he was also asked about possibly becoming the next James Bond, now that Daniel Craig has completed his time as the character after No Time To Die.
“I think it would be very exciting to have a conversation with the producers. … In an ideal world, I’d never have to turn anything down. Nothing is off the table. It’s an honor to even be part of that conversation,” Cavill said.
One of Cavill’s biggest roles right now is as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher series on Netflix. You can see Cavill return as this character when Season 2 of The Witcher premieres on Netflix on December 17.
