The Broadway universe continues to struggle with COVID-19 issues. X-Men and The Greatest Showman star Hugh Jackman has unfortunately contracted COVID-19. This sudden turn in the actor’s life also affects the theater production of The Music Man, which is receiving cancellation through January 1.
Hugh Jackman Takes a Small Break from the Stage
Hugh Jackman, known famously for his roles as Logan/Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, took to social media to share the news with the public. This comes after the recent reveal from co-star Sutton Foster that she caught the virus the previous week. Thankfully, Foster’s understudy Kathy Voytko stepped in for the role while the play continued at the Winter Garden Theatre. The show went on with Jackman and Voytko, and the rest of the dedicated cast.
Just wanted you to hear it from me. I tested positive for covid. Mild symptoms and as soon as I’m cleared … looking forward to getting back to The Winter Garden! @MusicManBway pic.twitter.com/q1oEAzXX02

But now, the show is without its two main leads due to the coronavirus. Because of this, the show is now canceled through January 1 at the latest. Anyone who purchased tickets before then will receive a full refund.
Aside from The Music Man‘s cancellations, Hugh Jackman seems to be doing okay. As aforementioned, he took to social media to share the saddening news but reassures that he’s doing good during this time:
I just wanted you to hear from me that I tested positive this morning for COVID. My symptoms are like a cold. I have a scratchy throat and a bit of a runny nose, but I’m fine. And I’m just going to do everything I can to get better ASAP. And as soon as I’m cleared, I’ll be back on stage… Please, stay safe, be healthy, be kind.”
Performances for The Music Man are set to resume on January 2. Be sure to keep an eye on changed dates at the Winter Garden Theatre if you’re around the Broadway area. We sincerely hope you’re staying safe out there as the COVID-19 variants come and go. And we wish Hugh Jackman a speedy recovery from COVID-19.
