Following Kodansha’s initial Thursday announcement, the company has also announced the release date for the Blue Lock manga’s English print release. The first announcement confirmed that the company would release print versions of the popular soccer manga.
Currently, Kodansha is publishing the manga digitally for those that purchase it. The date for the English print copies is confirmed to be March 16th of this year. Even though there are more copies, the website only lists the first 11 volumes available for physical purchase.
Kodansha’s website is constantly updating with information regarding Blue Lock. As of now, the digital-first chapter is available for free for those that want to try the series out.
Blue Lock’s Sports Anime Niche
Creators Kaneshiro and Nomura first launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Magazine in August 2018. Most recently, Kodansha published the manga’s 17th complied volume in December. With over 5 million copies in circulation, Blue Lock won Kodansha’s “Best Shonen Manga” award.
The story for Blue Lock is described as;
After a disastrous defeat at the 2018 World Cup, Japan’s team struggles to regroup. Still, what’s missing? They need an absolute Ace Striker who can guide them to the win. The Japan Football Union is hell-bent on creatnig a striiker who hungers for goals and thirsts for victory. They need someone who can be the decisive instrument in turning aroundn a loosing match. They’ve gathered 300 of Japan’s best and brightest youth players to make up for the loss. Who will emerge to lead the team… and will they be able to out-muscle and out-ego everyone who stands in their way?
Announced in August 2021, the manga is inspiring a television anime that will premiere in late 2022. Studio Eight Bit is in charge of animation.
