In a recent interview with Screen Rant, James Gunn teased fans about Adam Warlock’s role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. This comes after Will Poulter, known best for his roles in Detroit, The Maze Runner, and We’re the Millers, was cast in the role.
Fans have been awaiting the arrival of Adam Warlock ever since he was teased in a post-credits scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In this scene, Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki), the leader of the Sovereign, reveals a hidden superweapon that they have created, which she calls “Adam.” Many fans believed this to be Adam Warlock and this seems to be the case. Adam Warlock is an immensely powerful being in the comics and should have a large impact on the MCU when he makes his debut.
Gunn, who directed the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films, has remained secretive about Adam Warlock’s role in the third entry. However, in his Screen Rant interview, he gave a slight tease on Warlock’s upcoming role. James Gunn said that Poulter so far is “killing it” and that fans will come to “appreciate” him once he makes his debut as Adam Warlock.
“Oh, he’s the best. He’s the best… He’s killing it,” Gunn said. “People are going to really love Adam — or love? They’re going to appreciate Adam Warlock, I’ll say.”
Gunn’s questioning of love suggests that Warlock may not be a complete hero. Plus, after Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, it’s clear that he loves to work with characters who ride the line of hero or villain.
The Guardians have not returned in their own movie since 2017; however, they did play a prominent role in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. They are expected to return in Thor: Love and Thunder, so it won’t be too much longer until we see the return of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), and the rest of the gang.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled to hit theaters in May 2023, so we still have a long time to go before we even see a trailer.
