God of War (2018): The Best Axe and Blade Pommels

In total, you can find and/or craft 25 Leviathan Axe and 16 Blade of Chaos pommels to arm Kratos in God of War 2018. Out of those, of course, there are going to be the better ones you can use. Here’s a list of the best Leviathan Axe and Blade of Chaos pommels you can give to Kratos to help him fight off Midgard’s dangerous inhabitants in GOW 2018.

The Best Leviathan Axe Pommels

1. Forbidden Grip of the Ages

• Solve the Muspelheim Tower puzzle.
  • Stand in the middle of the circular platform on the ground, use the temple in front of you as a point of reference then follow these steps.
  • Look straight.
  • Look to the left (brazier/furnace on the left).
  • Look straight.
  • Look to the right (brazier/furnace on the right).
  • Look to the left (brazier/furnace on the left).
  • Look straight.
  • Look down.
  • Look to the right (brazier/furnace on the right).
  • Look to the left (brazier/furnace on the left).
  • Look straight.
  • A Realm Tear will open and grab the secret pommel there.

Arguably the best axe pommel you can get for early to mid-game since the Word of Ages skill boosts all your stats and adds a concussive wave to the end of the basic R1 combo.

2. Grip of Tanngiost

• Start the “Hammer Fall” Wayward Spirits Favor.
• Found at Thor’s Statue in Veithurgard.

The Fist of Thor skill gives a chance to add lightning explosions that inflict Shock damage on all nearby enemies. A good option if you have to deal with crowds and need AOE damages.

3. Hreazla Farmadr’s Grip

• Complete the “Family Business” Dwarven Favor from Sindri.

This Leviathan Axe pommel is good if you have an aggressive playstyle. With the Warrior’s Health Burst skill, there’s a low chance that Health Burst will be activated on any successful axe hit.

4. Blightbringer

• Found in a chest in Niflheim.

If you managed to find this axe pommel, the Curse of The Mist skill has a useful passive debuff that inflicts Weakness status effects to enemies. Sure it’s another one with a “low chance of activation” but having an ability to deal status effect is better than nothing.

5. Valkyrie’s Might

• Defeat the Valkyrie Eir in Midgard.

Pretty much an upgrade from Grip of Tanngiost. Aside from Runic, Strength and massive Luck boosts, Strike of The Valkyrie skill can help you deal great AOE damages since any successful Executioner’s Cleave can cause a massive explosion with a low activation bonus explosion on any hit.

6. Wing of the Fallen

• Defeat the Valkyrie Hildr in Niflheim.
• Might also drop from other Valkyries.

Any successful kill using this pommel can grant Power of the Valkyrie skill that increases Runic and Strength. It can also stack up to three times, making it extremely powerful against waves of enemies.

7. Retribution

• Defeat all nine Valkyries.
• Defeat the Valkyrie Queen Sigrún in Council of Valkyries.

After beating the tough Sigrún, you will obtain the “second best” axe pommel in GOW 2018. Queen’s Wrath skill will buff up your R1 axe throw and recall attack with a low activation chance to add a “massively damaging” explosion on hit.

8. Mistbourne

• Visit Niflheim.
• Complete “Ivaldi’s Curse” Favor from Sindri by closing all three Realm Tears in Niflheim and grabbing it from the last Tear.

Most GOW 2018 players agreed that this has got to be the best Leviathan Axe pommel in the game thanks to massive Strength and Vitality boosts as well as Healing Mist skill that regenerates your Health and increases Runic.

The Best Blade of Chaos Pommels

1. Blightguard

• Found in a chest in Niflheim.

The Blade of Chaos version of Blightbringer. Pair it with one of the Leviathan Axe pommels from above (aside from Blightbringer, obviously) to quickly debuff enemies and deal extra damages.

2. Grips of the Cursed Flame

• Found in a chest in the Volunder Mines dock in Helheim.
• Open the chest by using the Winds of Hel.

This Blade of Chaos pommel doesn’t just have decent stats, but the Gift of Fire skill has a chance to plant a second delayed firebomb on enemies, giving you combo opportunities if proc and timed correctly.

3. Grips of the Valkyrie

• Defeat the Valkyrie Rota in Helheim.

Pretty much the blade version of Wing of the Fallen. Grips of the Valkyrie blade pommel is best paired with your favorite Leviathan Axe to boost up your stats and deal massive damages to enemies standing in your way of finishing GOW 2018.

4. Grips of the Forgotten Flame

• Find the Muspelheim Ciphers to access the Realm of Muspelheim.
• Complete the Muspelheim Trials.

Completing the Muspelheim Trials takes both skill and a lot of time. Thankfully, the prize is well worth it. The pommel adds an Aura of Fire skill that can create a circle of flame around Kratos, inflicting fire damage, making you virtually untouchable.
