With the recent release of the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, it seems hype for the franchise is at an all-time high. Whether it’s all the recent press or the recently released beta, it seems that the upcoming shooter Star Wars Battlefront is pulling in big numbers. Electronic Arts’ CFO Blake Jorgensen explained during a post-earnings call that the game is now expected to ship 13 million units by the end of the fiscal year (March 31st, 2016). This dwarfs the publishers previous estimates of 9-10 million copies by quite a staggering amount. One can assume this is due to the 9.5 million players who were able to participate in the Star Wars Battlefront beta test a few weeks back.
EA has also increased its sales number by an extra 50 million to coincide with the increased shipping numbers. Jorgensen also stated that he is expecting an 80/20 split for the shipments between this current fiscal quarter and final one. Despite the beta’s mixed reception from critics and fans alike, it seems that this has done nothing to deter the popularity. Our very own Chris George commented on the obvious balancing issues and awful spawning locations. While Star Wars Battlefront has a lofty legacy to uphold, there is no doubt now that we will have plenty of Rebels and Imperials to shoot at.
Star Wars Battlefront will be releasing November 14th on PS4, Xbox One and Pc.
