With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 dropping in this October, competitive FPS enthusiasts are ready to get their hands on the exciting multiplayer mode once more. However, there are some changes in COD: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer like the max Military Rank level cap and how the new Prestige leveling system works that you’ll need to know in order to conquer the battlefield.

COD: Modern Warfare 2 Max Level Cap Explained

In COD: Modern Warfare 2, your multiplayer level is called Military Ranks with a level cap of 55. Each new Rank comes with some new unlocks including Weapon Platforms and Spec Ops Kits. To raise your Military Ranks you have to earn in-game XP by playing Matches and completing Daily and/or Milestone Challenges.

However, unlike in previous titles, all weapons are no longer unlocked simply by raising your Military Ranks. Considering the Gunsmith 2.0 changes, this time around reaching the level cap of 55 will just unlock every Weapon Platform or the “base” weapon type. Additional gun types will have to be earned by leveling up and unlocking specific Receivers from a Weapon Platform.

Regarding the Prestige system, when players reach level 55, they’ll get into the seasonal leveling system. Players then can advance up to Prestige 3 Rank after completing 50 seasonal levels. Raising the seasonal level can be done by playing Matches and completing Challenges. Just like COD: Vanguard, your Prestige Rank will be reset when the new season drops.

However, the November 9th, 2022, CallofDuty.com blog post stated that this year, players that can get past Rank 55 will earn a “persistent Prestige Rank” across all seasons. With Season 1 level cap is up to Prestige 5, unlocked at Rank 250. After Season 1 ends, they can then continue ranking up from wherever they ended up on the Prestige Ranks. Below is the list of all available Prestige Ranks for Season 1:

  • Prestige 2: Unlocked at Rank 100.
  • Prestige 3: Unlocked at Rank 150.
  • Prestige 4: Unlocked at Rank 200.
  • Prestige 5: Unlocked at Rank 250 and is the level cap until the end of Season 01.

Meanwhile, back in the beta COD: Modern Warfare 2 has two different max level caps depending on when you play it:

  • The first week runs fromย September 16 to September 20. During this time period, theย max level cap is 15ย for theย Modern Warfare 2ย beta.
  • Meanwhile, the second week runs from September 22 to September 26. When you play during this time, theย max level cap is increased to 30.
