The Exorcist (1973) is one of the most well-known horror films of all time; helping to define an entire genre of scary movies by itself. Now it seems FOX is bent on bringing the scares to the small screen with a television series based off of a book with the same name. The novel, The Exorcist, was released back in 1971 and was written by William Peter Blatty. According to TheWrap, The Exorcist will be following roughly the same storyline as the novel; in which two priests are sent to perform an exorcism on a 12-year-old girl. This was then adapted by director William Friedkin two years later and received both commercial and critical success.

FOX has ordered a one-hour pilot episode for this series with Jeremy Slater, David Robinson, Barabara Wall and James Robinson as producers. No information on casting or staff has been released. This turned of remaking classic horror films into television series has already proven a successful venture with A&E’s Bates Motel, based off Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, obtaining a large amount of acclaim. Whether this is a sign of a new trend ushering in for television or just an attempt to ride the success of a notable name is yet to be seen. One can be sure, it will certainly be a title to watch out for int he near future.

Which horror franchise would you like to get a television adaptation? Excited for The Exorcist to possibly come to television? Sound off below!
