Are you going through the recent batch of Fortnite challenges? Perhaps you’ve seen one that isn’t exactly clear? That would be the Fortnite challenge to crack an opponent’s shield. The problem some players encounter is that the quest doesn’t specify whether it is a general shield or the new Guardian Shield that needs cracking. Let’s touch more on the challenge below and how you can go about completing it.
How to Crack an Opponent’s Shield in Fortnite
The quest seems straightforward enough. Just find an opponent and crack their shields. However, with the addition of the Guardian Shield that can also see damage, some players are left a bit confused as to what shield will count toward the challenge.
So, if you’re among these players, know that the only way to crack an opponent’s shield and finish the quest in Fortnite is to simply battle an opponent. We’re not talking about the Guardian Shield here. We are talking about the basic shield you get from Chug Jug, Slurp Juice, etc. Knowing this, the challenge seems far easier than before.
It doesn’t take much to break a shield in the game. In fact, all you have to do is damage it enough. Some opponents will have full shields, so they require a bit more work. In any event, you can aim for their heads to do more damage. Eventually, you will crack an opponent’s shield in Fortnite. If you want to get this done fast, use your Falcon Scout to ping some nearby enemies so you can get to work.
The breaking of a shield is not an act that you can miss, thankfully. Cracking an opponent’s shield comes with an auditory effect. You will hear what sounds like glass shattering once a shield is cracked.

An interesting thing about this Fortnite challenge is that you don’t just have to crack an opponent’s shield to accomplish it. Instead, you can always crack your own shield for it to count. What this means though is that you will put yourself in the line of fire. If you have no qualms about it, get your shields up and jump out there to become a bullet sponge.
Of course, you’ll want to either get away fast enough or take them down not too long after to stay in the match.
