Want to know how to upgrade gear in Forspoken? Forspoken is a single-player action RPG in which you play as Frey as she is whisked away into the magical world of Athia.

Just like every title in the RPG genre, this one also features leveling and upgrading. However, this one works a bit differently. You will need to upgrade your gear alongside magical abilities to boost Stamina, Health, and Healing, among other stats. The right gear will help you edge out your enemies a bit easier. This guide will show you how to upgrade gear in Forspoken.

All the Gear in Forspoken

To upgrade gear in Forspoken, you just need to visit a Crafting Bench or set up a Camp, but only after you have unlocked the upgrading ability. There are two pieces of gear that you can upgrade in Forspoken:

  • Cloak
  • Necklaces

All these items have a limited number of available upgrade slots, so you will need to remove old upgrades to add a new one.

Nail designs are another gear in Forspoken, but you can’t upgrade these, but only find specific nail designs throughout Athia. Every nail design adds a different boost to Frey’s stats and abilities.

Unlocking Upgrading Ability

You won’t be able to upgrade gear in Forspoken until you unlock the upgrading gear ability. This will happen in Chapter 3 as you find a girl character named Olevia in Cipal.

Forspoken: How to Upgrade Gear

As you progress through the story, you will first be introduced to cloaks. You will receive a hooded cloak from the character named Auden in Cipal. This will unlock ‘Cloaks’ in the menu. You can later upgrade this gear in Forspoken.

To upgrade a Cloak, you will need to visit a Crafting Bench or set up a Camp. For this, it is easiest to visit a Pilgrims Refuge.

Once at a Crafting Bench, select which item you want to upgrade, the one equipped or the one in your inventory. Cloaks can save your life at certain moments in the game as they offer a significant boost to stats and abilities. You will find a number of cloaks scattered across Athia, all adding a specific benefit to Frey’s stats.

Necklaces are another gear you can equip to Frey, which boosts specific stats and abilities. To equip a Necklace in Forspoken, head to the ‘Gear’ menu. Now, instead of ‘Cloaks,’ choose Necklace on the right.

Once you click it, you will be taken to a new screen that shows all the Necklaces you have in your inventory. If you want to upgrade this gear in Forspoken, simply visit a Crafting Bench or start a Camp and follow the steps.

Unfortunately, every piece of gear has limitations. Both cloaks and necklaces have a certain number of slots at which you can appoint upgrades. If you want to add new upgrades to gear that has slots filled, you will need to remove one of the existing upgrades. Simply click on the upgrade slot you want to remove and then, through the upgrade menu, add the desired upgrade to gear.
