Ed Sheeran and His Wife Open Up About Cherry Seaborn’s Cancer Diagnosis
Musician Ed Sheeran and his wife fought through one of their biggest battles yet as a couple. The couple bared it all in a new Disney+ documentary series, Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All, debuting today. Sheeran and Seaborn detail the duo’s emotional journey in the docuseries in four parts: Love, Loss, Focus, and Balance.
Per ET, the usually reserved Seaborn opened up about the details of her diagnosis in the first episode. Seaborn was diagnosed with cancer barely two months into the year in 2022. She revealed that the diagnosis came after doctors found a tumor in her arm in the sixth month of her second pregnancy. In all, the silver linings in Seaborn’s cancer diagnosis inspired her to participate in the documentary.
“I got diagnosed with cancer at the start of the year, which was a massive sh*tter,” she shares. “It made me massively reflect on our mortality. I would never agree to do anything like this, but it made me think, ‘Oh if I died, what’s people’s perception of me? What do you leave behind?'”
The couple had similar motives for featuring in the docuseries. Seaborn’s point in participating in the documentary was to show people all the parts of her reserved personality. Similarly, Grammy-winning musician Ed Sheeran wanted to showcase a side of him that was not limited to music.
Together, the couple went through the moments that followed the diagnosis. Seaborn revealed that songwriting was her husband’s way of processing pain, so naturally, he turned to his pen to write his pain away. The Perfect singer confirmed his wife’s claims, disclosing that he wrote seven songs in four hours to deal with the pain.
Despite the couple finding out that Seaborn’s cancer diagnosis was much less severe, things didn’t generally improve. Other parts of their lives began to experience turbulence. The British musician lost his best friend, Jamal Edwards, to a drug-influenced cardiac arrest around that time. Also, he was involved in a court case where he was accused of plagiarizing his hit song, Shape of You.
How is the Couple Now?
Sheeran and Seaborn were victorious in their fight against cancer. The mother-of-two safely delivered her baby, and a clear MRI scan cleared her of the cancer’s return. While the couple is clear on Seaborn’s health, Sheeran’s mental health might have taken a hit. Ed Sheeran and Seaborn’s marriage has inspired fans of the couple. With the docuseries premiering today, fans might be falling even deeper in love with the admirable couple.
