You might have encountered a glamorous golden horse while playing Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. What if we said you can actually tame and get the horse? Yes, the Golden Horse belongs to Zelda, and there is a way of taming it in the game. The beautiful creature has great stats in the game and is a brilliant companion when exploring the vastness of various regions in the game. Here’s a guide to help you get the Golden Horse in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Starting the Golden Horse Quest in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
To get the Golden Horse, you need to complete a few tasks. When you begin the open-world part of the game, reach Lookout Landing and unlock the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower as part of the story. Penn, an enormous bird, will tell you about a newspaper he works for and how you can join them. He will then fly away, and you will find at his next location.
From Lookout Landing, head northwest, cross the river, and glide across the gorge to reach the Lucky Clover Gazette. Inside, you will meet Penn and his partner Traysi, who are investigating Princess Zelda’s disappearance for the paper. This quest line will unlock events at stables and give you access to the Golden Horse upon completion.
Once you join the news team, visit different stables. In particular, you’ll need to go to the Snow Fields Stable, located northeast of the Lucky Clover Gazette (Direction marked by the red arrow in the above map). Have your cold-weather gear ready and make sure to have cold weather food, since the area is extremely frigid. Travel along the road or use gliding to reach the stable. At the Snow Fields Stable, you’ll find Penn talking to a concerned lady, as the golden horse has gone missing. Your task will be to track down the horse and claim it for yourself.
Golden Horse Location in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The Golden horse is at the North Tabantha Snowfield, north of Snowfield Stable (Direction in the above map). As you set your journey to find the horse, you’ll encounter some challenging creatures along the way. Avoid them and continue north. You will also come across the Ice Dragon flying in the sky, be careful not to agitate it. Eventually, you’ll find the Golden Horse with a group of other horses in the designated area on the map, just north of the Snow Fields Stable.
Taming the horse requires significant stamina. Use a bow and arrows with White Chuchu Jelly to freeze the horse, then quickly approach and continuously press the “A Button” to mount it. Before mounting, be prepared to press the “L button” to soothe the horse once you are up, as you’ll need ample stamina. It’s advisable to have extra stamina food. Once tamed, bring the Golden Horse back to the stables, and it will become yours.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is playable on Nintendo Switch.
