Hot off getting a new Superman in David Cornswet, we’re also getting a new Superman series. The highly anticipated series My Adventures With Superman has finally premiered, and it’s kicking off with highly favorable reviews. The animated series focuses on a young Clark Kent adjusting to his new role as the Man of Steel while developing a romance with his new friend and colleague Lois Lane. This new series shows a different side of Clark Kent, making him the story’s main hero. Let’s examine how My Adventures With Superman takes Clark Kent from dorky alias to series hero.

Superman and Super Reporter

My Adventures With Superman sees Clark Kent learning to use his powers as Superman while working as an intern for the Daily Planet. Jack Quaid, who voices the character, told People Magazine he wanted to examine both personalities. Quaid said, “I love navigating the two sides of him, but at his core, keeping him Clark, who’s just this sweet guy who genuinely wants to do good in the world and also wants to be a reporter. He genuinely loves reporting and wants to do the best job possible.”

We will certainly see much of Superman’s heroics in this new series. But we will also look deeper into Clark’s interests outside of protecting Metropolis. We’ve seen the Clark Kent side of Superman explored before (e.g. as a family man in Superman & Lois). However, this series will be a deep dive into Clark making his way in the workaday world while trying to be the hero the world needs as Superman.

Clark’s appearance and personality in My Adventures With Superman add to his heroic nature. Show producer Brendan Clogher told IndieWire, “Superman is an act Clark puts on. Clark is still figuring out who he is, but when he’s Superman, he’s acting like a different guy.” In past iterations (except for Smallville), Clark Kent has often been Superman’s dorky disguise. But in this coming-of-age story, it’s the other way around.

My Adventures With Superman’s version of Clark Kent is bound to add to the character’s heroism. In this series, Clark is not some weak persona that Superman puts on to hide his strength. Instead, he’s a relatable character going through the many insecurities that all young people deal with. And he has to balance that with becoming the strong, confident hero that Metropolis, and the world, need him to be. This makes Clark Kent a much more relatable character, making him a fantastic hero.

A Hero With a Love Interest

Every hero needs a good love interest, and Clark has one in Lois Lane. This version of the character (voiced by Alice Lee) will reportedly be more of a fighter than we’ve seen before (which is saying something). Producer Jake Wyatt says, “She’s like our version of Batman, all about justice or vengeance, while Superman just wants everyone to be kind and friendly.” These two will likely help each other grow and learn from one another, adding depth to Clark’s hero’s journey.

Clark Kent: The Hero of ‘My Adventures With Superman’

Considering all these factors, My Adventures With Superman puts a unique spin on Clark Kent. Seeing the character rising to his new role as Superman while still living out the pressures of being a young twenty-something will make him highly relatable to audiences. And that will make him a worthy hero for the series.
