Coming off season 3, Harley Quinn had a lot to break down for its season 4 trailer as it builds upon the previous outing (seen below). Ivy and Harley have many things to juggle between their relationship and new career paths. Beyond the main story of the two lovebirds, we get all of our favorite supporting characters in the adult DC animated comedy. Between character moments, we get plenty of raunchy humor and brutal violence in which people get turned into bloody goop. Let’s get into our breakdown of the Harley Quinn season 4 trailer.
Harley Quinn Season 4 Trailer Breakdown
The start comes with an introduction from the former psychologist-turned-supervillain-now-superhero. Kaley Cuoco’s titular character welcomes the audience to the footage. She prepares us as we “strap in for more sex, more drama, more Bane being Bane, and more Harl-Ivy.”
The first thing to break down in the Harley Quinn season 4 trailer is a closer look at this new phase in Harley and Ivy’s relationship. While on separate adventures — Ivy committing crimes and Harley saving the day — they call to let the other know they have each other’s lunch. Between maiming their respective attackers, they talk about how they are “so damn cute.” This first glimpse gives us the positive side of how they are balancing being a couple and having separate career paths. As of the last season, Harls joined the Bat Family to become a superhero, while her plant-controlling significant other got into a leadership position at the Legion of Doom.
Harley will further develop her relationship with the Bat Family, particularly Batgirl, who she has had plenty of chemistry with in previous seasons. The new member does face issues, particularly towards the end of the trailer when the Bat Family remind her about their anti-killing rules, including knitted pillows and signs around the Bat Cave to serve as a reminder. In that scene, we see Solomon Grundy on the computer screen, a supervillain we have not seen in the animated series before. Even four seasons in, we get more pulls of iconic and obscure characters from Batman’s rogue’s gallery.
Meanwhile, Ivy deals with Lex Luthor heading off to space in a phallic-shaped rocket, leaving her to deal with some villains who don’t want a woman in charge, particularly Snowflame, a drug-fueled villain. This is the first major new character to be introduced. While not looking like a main antagonist this season, from his brief appearance in the Harley Quinn season 4 trailer, we will bet in this breakdown that he will at least cause some drama for Poison Ivy.
Heroism and Villainous Acts Collide
Joining the Bat Family is not everything Harls imagined. She starts to see the “boring” side of the good guys as the team usually exercises and updates records. When a crime happens, trouble for the lovebirds occurs. While being chased by the Justice League, Ivy and other Legion of Doom members get jumped by Harley Quinn in her new stylish Batsuit. This conflict in their new lives seems to be the focus of this season as one tries to save the city and the other causes mayhem.
Beyond the relationship struggles, Harley Quinn starts having issues adjusting to her new life. She longs to find a balance between her job and her old lifestyle. She wants to party and cause mayhem. As she discusses this desire, we see sexy times with Ivy, a drug-snorting Snowflame, Gordon’s privates lit on fire, Bane comedically running into a fire hydrant, and plenty of vehicular action.
Between fast clips of action and sexual content, we see some interesting moments that tease some major things to come. While going slow in our Harley Quinn trailer breakdown, we catch Ivy and Clayface fighting. Nobody else is seen, but our main crew of supporting characters like King Shark and Dr. Psycho may have to pick a side between Harley or Ivy.
Harley Quinn season 4 will premiere on Max on July 27.
