You can do all sorts of things in Baldur’s Gate 3, but can you become a vampire? The game lets you create and play as many types of races and classes as possible. You can do almost anything with them, from conning dangerous people, romancing Druids in animal form, and stealing from potential allies. The blood-sucker situation gets complicated, and we are here to help you understand. In a game with this much freedom to let you roleplay, there are limitations when playing Dungeons & Dragons in video game form rather than the tabletop game.

Early on, when you crash land after the tutorial section, you start to form a party of people you meet. One of those is a vampire spawn Rogue, Astarion, who will jump-start this question if you can become like him. While he can’t change you due to not being an actual vampire, as he is essentially a slave to the one who turned him, you can gain a vampire-like power. This is how you can bite people like him to deal damage and gain health by pretending to be one.

When you reach Druid Grove, you will meet Auntie Ethel, who is willing to cure you of your tadpole. She will mark on your map where to meet her for a cure. When you find her in the Sunlit Wetlands, she will reveal herself as a powerful Fey boss you must defeat. After killing the level 5 creature, you can loot her home. The potion, A Mother’s Loathing, is in her Acrid Workshop lab. This will give you Bite, the same ability that Astarion has. It is not the same as being a vampire, but the closest you can get is Baldur’s Gate 3. Your target will take 2d4 damage while you regain 2d4 health.

However, there isn’t an option to pick Vampire as a race or class, which means the abovementioned options are your only way to feel like a Vampire.

When Astarion joins your party, he will try to suck your blood. You will wake up and disrupt this attempt, but you can let him continue. If you do, you can give him the Happy Buff, which gives him +1 to attack rolls and skill checks. If you want to further your relationship, whether romantic or otherwise, it will also make him like and trust you more. Just beware that if you don’t stop him at one point, he will kill you. When you get revived, you will have a heated conversation but can make up to move on like you never died.
