It’s easy for your item bag to fill up in Pokemon Go. From revive potions to lures, you’ll collect plenty during your adventures. But if you want to unlock a permanent and powerful attack for your Pokemon, you need Special Attack Items, one of which is Meteorite. It’s not just handed to you, though. You must participate in special events, and these Elite Raids couldn’t have come at a better time. Now, you have a shot at scoring more Meteorites in Pokemon Go and snagging one of the best pocket monsters: Mega Rayquaza.

Elite Raid Event: Meteorite and Mega Rayquaza

[Updated June 20, 2024 – added information about the most recent Elite Raid Day Event]

It’s been some time since Trainers could earn Meteorite so freely in Pokemon Go. Thanks to the Elite Raid Day Event, you have another opportunity to gather as much as possible as Mega Rayquaza roars its way back into battle.

During this day, you can link up with other local Trainers to take this incredible pocket monster down. Of course, you cannot catch Rayquaza in its Mega Evolved state with the Pokemon Go Elite Raids. Only the base one. Check out the times for the Elite Raids so you can prep accordingly:

  • Saturday, June 29, 2024: 12:00 PM (local)
  • Saturday, June 29, 2024: 1:00 PM (local)
  • Saturday, June 29, 2024: 5:00 PM (local)

Mega Rayquaza, like with any Elite Raid, is no easy foe. So, expect a challenge. But if you’re not quite ready for these Raids or just don’t want to participate, you can still enjoy the event. Just jump into the Free Timed Research tasks. Each task you complete should grant you Meteorite in Pokemon Go. For those Trainers who already have the Legendary Rayquaza, you can keep this Meteorite on hand to teach it a permanent Charged Attack. And, of course, get one step closer to Mega Evolving it.

How To Use a Meteorite

From its initial entry into Pokemon Go, a Meteorite has only ever been used for Rayquaza. It’s meant to teach the Dragon/Flying pocket monster the powerful Charged Atack Dragon Ascent, which is also its signature move. And who wouldn’t want a permanent, potent move like that?

But it doesn’t stop there. If you have enough Mega Energy (typically 400), you can Mega Evolve Rayquaza. It’s as straightforward to use as any other item in Pokemon Go. But don’t stress about the Mega Energy unless you crave Mega Rayquaza. The Energy can come. Focus on finishing those Timed Research tasks so you can gain enough Meteorite before the special event concludes.
