Baldur’s Gate 3 has a huge number of side quests that you can experience. Below, we will tell you about one of them, namely the Help the Cursed Monk quest in Baldur’s Gate 3. As the name implies, you’ll need to help a cursed monk stuck in the Sentient Amulet. This is a long quest; if you are looking for ways to complete it, we will provide you with all the necessary instructions.
Unlocking the Help the Cursed Monk Quest in BG3
You can get it in Act 1, but complete it only in Act 3. Below, we will talk in more detail about each part of the quest.
You will receive this quest when you explore Grymforge in Act 3. When you visit Underdark, you will find Adamantine Forge. After exploring the area near this location, you will notice a small platform among the lava, which you can reach by moving through the rocks. This platform is located at the following coordinates: X:-627, Y:224. When you arrive at this location, you will notice a chest in the center. Open it, and you’ll find the Sentient Amulet, which is the main item of the quest.
Upon taking this cursed amulet possessed by the spirit of the monk, the monk’s ghost will start talking to you. He has been imprisoned in this amulet for years because he was once cursed and is serving his punishment this way. He will ask you to help him and take this amulet to his granddaughter Shirra because only then will he be able to find peace. You can either agree to help him or refuse. By choosing the first option, Help the Cursed Monk will start and become available for completion.
Completing the Help the Cursed Monk Quest in BG3
To progress the quest, you must complete a significant part of the story by reaching Act 3. When you do so and have access to Rivington, you can visit the Open Hand Temple at Wyrm’s Crossing. There you will need to find Sister Yannis to learn more information about where Shirra is. As it turns out, the cursed monk’s granddaughter died a year ago, so you won’t be able to meet her. On the other hand, Sister Yannis will tell you where she is buried so you can find Shirra’s tomb.

Her coffin is located in the basement under the temple. To get there, you must go to the temple’s kitchen and go downstairs using the Ornate Wooden Hatch. There will be several coffins downstairs, so look for the one with the monk’s granddaughter’s name on it.
When you find the right coffin, you must interact with it to place the amulet inside. After you do this, Shirra’s body will come to life, but it won’t be her who talks to you; it will be the cursed monk. He will be grateful for your help in finding his granddaughter, but he will ask you to remove the curse from him before allowing you to leave. This is a difficult choice, so let’s take a closer look at each of the options:
Agree
If you agree to help the monk break the curse, you will face two checks. To avoid the curse, you must successfully pass them with a minimum of 15 in both cases. If you fail one of the checks, you will lose 2 pieces of wisdom.
Otherwise, if all goes well, you won’t be cursed and will get the spell Tasha’s Hideous Laughter. This is a good option; however, don’t forget to save the game before rolling for the checks to replay if you fail.
Refuse
The second option is not as interesting as the first. If you refuse, the cursed monk will attack your group. He will summon other undead for help, which you must defeat. In addition, this option does not involve getting the Tasha’s Hideous Laughter spell.
Choose to fulfill the conditions or kill the undead to complete the cursed monk quest in Baldur’s Gate 3 will be completed.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
