2023 has been a busy year with significant releases across every platform to satisfy just about anyone. Due to the competition, some schedules have needed to shift. Today, Alan Wake 2 has announced on its social media platforms that it will be delayed to avoid the big games releasing in mid-October (seen below). Its date will move from Tuesday, October 17 to Friday, October 27.

October is an overwhelming month, so it is not a surprise that Remedy delayed Alan Wake 2. Some of the anticipated releases consist of Assassin’s Creed Mirage (October 5), Detective Pikachu Returns (October 6), Forza Motorsport (October 10), Lords of the Fallen (October 13), Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (October 20), and more.

Alan Wake 2 Delayed to Dodge Games Releasing in October

An update from the Alan Wake 2 team: we're moving Alan Wake 2's launch from October 17 to October 27.

October is an amazing month for game launches and we hope this date shift gives more space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games.

The message from Remedy read, “October is an amazing month for game launches, and we hope this date shift gives more space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games.” This makes for a smart move to give the game the biggest chance to succeed. Each of the major platforms will have a major release in October, so money could be tight for people. Spacing it out will hopefully give the game room to breathe. The horror title will remain in the spooky season, feeding that hunger to play something creepy during the week of Halloween.

In the current environment of the games industry, most AAA games cost $70. Remedy is going against the trend with a digital-only launch. This will keep the price down, with console releases costing $59.99 and the PC release costing $49.99. Since there is still a customer base for physical releases, the company has faced some backlash over the decision. However, even with the delay, Alan Wake 2 will remain a digital-only game.

Unlike the 2010 game, this title will go in a different direction while maintaining the atmosphere and shadowy creatures of the original. The plot involves occultist murders bringing forth an FBI investigation while the titled character is trapped in The Dark Place. It will be a jumping-on point for newcomers while having that bridge for fans of the original game.

Alan Wake 2 will release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
