Bethesda RPGs are all about who you want to be, especially the company’s latest sci-fi epic. One of the popular picks in Starfield is a space pirate, but how do you sell the contraband you obtain? The game lacks many tutorials for some of these mechanics, which often makes it tough to understand what to do or where to go. If you planned on some criminal acts to take illegal items to places they should not be, then this is all the information you need to know before you get into trouble. Here’s a full breakdown of where to sell contraband in Starfield.

1,000 planets is a lot to explore, so having a go-to vendor is your best bet in selling items. If you have contraband to sell in Starfield, go to any Trade Authority vendor to make money off your goods. Two easy ones to reach are Marcel Duris in The Den or Zoe Kaminski on Jemison.

Unlock The Key in Starfield Explained

You actually have another option aside from those. It’s a location called The Key, and it’s a brilliant place to sell your contraband loot. Unfortunately, there is a catch: The Key is only accessible if you have good standing with the Crimson Fleet. The Key is useful because it doesn’t scan your ship for contraband, making it the perfect place if you don’t have the ship to hide items. When you land, you will have a bunch of different stores to choose from.

Before you start getting into stolen items, you need to know the basics. Every time has particular markings, such as if you took it fairly versus stealing the item. Contrabands are stolen items that are not allowed in a patrolled region. It will be marked with a yellow icon rather than red for other stolen items.

You need to hide contraband before you sell it in Starfield. A shielded cargo hold will protect your contraband from scanners before you land on a planet. Your first ship will not have one, but once you can upgrade your ship, this should be a priority to purchase. Just know that ship parts are expensive, especially for early on. If you upgrade your deception to talk your way out of situations, then you might be able to get away with it. Make sure you have a speedy ship or beefy guns, as your two options are to leave or fight the space cops.

Starfield will be released worldwide on September 6 on Xbox and PC. It will be available on Game Pass.
